For me the entire game felt like this image of jackenstein, I like dragon quest vii but really THIS GAME IS TAKING TO LONG!

Honestly never played a JRPG I could finish less than like 20 hours.

Then the subjectivity here is if the game would worth that much time or not, otherwise if the game suck hard even 2 hours would be a torture.

In the end if whatever you do doesn't satisfy you and if it's not something you should do then it's okay stop doing it.

IDK if you wanna really play a DQ game you may try DQ IX especially because you get into the game so fast and you get lots of fun stuff to do. Also no random encounters makes the game flow better. Especially creating your whole party by even choosing how they should look guy made me spend way more in the game than it takes to finish it because I tried lots of combinations to have more fun and all.

dragon quest 7 is the kind of game that was designed in the same way as DK64 - to be a game it would take an entire summer for a kid to beat. If you're cool with chipping away at a game a little bit every day and dedicating a lot of time to one title, maybe the only game you pick up for the whole summer, it can be a fun time but if you want something that can make way for you to play other stuff then maybe not

That one can easily go beyond the 100 hours mark. Probably the 3DS version is the best way to go.
And some JRPGs are endless just because you want so. For decades I still play Breath of Fire 4. Tons of fish to catch!!! lol

Thankfully I have something that made me go to the end of ancient roman power of dark side, patience.

The difference is I wanted to end dragon quest vii because I really like dragon quest, I ended ancient roman because I wanted to see if gets worse.

I've heard this is amongst the longest JRPG's on the system. If you've played for over 10 hours and still aren't feeling it, you might be better off playing something different. But if you decide to stick with it, I hope it picks up some steam.

You're 12 hours 43 minutes into Dragon Quest VII. You are, as best, 10% into the game. Dragon Quest VII on the original Playstation is well known for taking a good 120+ hours to complete.

DQVII is absolute torture to me lmao. I've never played a game that took so long to go nowhere. I tried the 3DS version and it helped a lot but good lord it has to be the most boring RPG I've ever played. I would just skip it lol. Not to rain on anybody's parade if yall love it.

Then avoid Nero (burnout syndrome) so you won't burn out like Rome!!! lol

I dropped it too, so I guess you can be forgiven for it. I think even the quicker paced 3DS remake still dragged.

It's definitely a slow burn of a game, but I think it works best if you don't try to marathon it. DQ7 and DQ as a series as a whole works best like a bedtime story told in parts. Short play sessions where you go to an island, hear its story, and solve its problem, then move on to something different outside the game feels like the intended way to play as the overarching plot isn't really the focal point of DQ7. Completely understandable to drop it if you want as that's not everyone's cup of tea, but if you want a singular game you can play leisurely and hang out in for a bit at a time, it's good for that.

I will summarise how slow it can be: most people will need to spend an entire HOUR to reach the first battle, i tried it and realized in the time i cleared the first half of DQIII i barely was in the first part of disc 1, dropped it, skip VI too since what it lacks in length it has it in confusion and tedium

I appreciate Nintendo's ancient way to put games into low storage capacity "ancient stones", that's why DQ IX is a "straight to the point game" without nothing unnecessary in between what matters because they couldn't fit "empty BS" into the game to drag it on and on lolol.

Dragon Quest 2, Caravan Heart and 7 are the only Dragon Quest games I cannot recommend. The first two are straight up bad. 7, on the other hand, isn't bad, but it's very flawed. It's also not a game that you dedicate all of your time. Rather, take each island as an arc from a big anime, kind of like One Piece. For example, complete one (or several), take a break and come back later.

The PS1 is particularly flawed because certain sections aren't particularly well designed and it takes longer to get to the job system. The 3DS is shorter in length by removing the early hours (which are a bit irrelevant, in my opinion) and by giving you a radar to find the fragments.

It's up to you if you want to continue. The story is completely irrelevant (rather, the value of the game lies in the small stories you get from each island).

Well depends I finish this game as a kid the games really that long to be honest were you at your still at the beginning is not for faint of heart

Man I remember finished this game like two month looking for thr piece of the continent

If you don't gave fun you can jump to different game the mostly important if you enjoyed it.

And I would add DQ8 to the list especially because it's a game that has the less DQ identity and fun than other games. As a JRPG it's ok, it's one of the good JRPG on PS2 but as a DQ game I can imagine how much it would bore people to just go to B from A just for turn based combats over and over again while people just say what to do and you gotta hold into that thought until you reach to B from A. The game's pros are fun yet me having hard time recommending it lol.

I think DQ 11 has less identity but at least that one has good combat

Dragon quest 11 Is the first dragon quest that I played on my game pass and I love it.
Don't get me wrong, Dragon Quest XI is a good game. I'd say it's... fourth best, maybe. However, after the second playthrough I realized that I don't like it THAT much. It's very tailored towards beginners, which explains a lot of design choices.
