My brain farted a great idea just now, how about for those who are shown in the birthday section, instead of writing them and filling the profile posts, we can send them messages or a confetti shot onto their screens with balloons filled with text from who sent the message to.

For example, the more people send regards and congrats, the more confetti and balloons show up on the screen.

Sounds like a great idea but I don’t know if XF has anything that remotely resembles this. If so, then that’s awesome, but I would never get my hopes up for XenForo haha.

Still, I think it’s cool to find creative ways to celebrate people’s bdays. It’s quite wholesome.

I think people should be allowed to wish users happy birthday publicly, it doesn’t interfere that much imo and there’s a chance it makes someone’s day.

That being said, an animated celebration widget kind of thing isn’t a bad idea either (but I’d rather they could coexist)! Though I doubt XenForo has that functionality.

I personally like to wish a happy birthday to each and every person who uses the board.

It's such a small thing (literally two words), but it can go a long way towards making someone feel appreciated and "seen" -- to me, that's what differentiates a site you use for downloads from a community.

That said... If we could add something like what Twitter does (your profile gets animated streamers and balloons visible to anyone who visits it), I'd be cool with that as well.

To me, mine is just another day, like a Monday or a Friday. I honestly don't care about it in real life, let alone here.
I don't even celebrate my birthday and haven't in probably 15 or more years. Sure, my brother bugs me about it, but that's family, you know, a little different.

Mind you, I don't mind seeing people's birthday wishes in the main forum. It's not a bad thing. Some people may not have anyone else to wish them a happy birthday, and a birthday greeting from someone online they consider a friend might mean the world to them.

If people want to give a Happy Birthday on a profile and don't want to flood the frontpage with the posts, why not just all comment on the same post of the first person doing the congratulation instead of creating additional individual ones?
