I Miss Unreal Tournament

it was a great game series at the time
really fun to play sure it hade its problem but it was a great game series

the unreal championship 2 liandri conflict is anothe great game in the series

Gaming has changed, it's no longer aimed for niche audiences. But they sterilize, bastardize games incorporating various elements to create the perfect concoction to appeal to as much as audiences as possible. UT would not have survived in any case.

I find the championship 2 a mixed bag, I played the windows dev build and restored some of the old maps from the "Avaris" era that couldn't be loaded at first. It started right after ut2003 was finished or even before as ut2 spinoff called UT Avaris, then it temporarily became ut2005, until retooled as UC2:LC.
It is also the only real "crossover" in the series given Raiden's appearance though it is outside of the story mode. Though if you explore the dev files you will find out Raiden was a late addition and originaly there was a separate Nali Windstalker character that was inspired by Raiden a little, then Midway said "fuck it, feature Raiden wholesale, make it even more like Mortal Kombat".

Lol

Also it was the last time there was any real singleplayer content as there are few singleplayer missions in the story mode, well missions is a big word, you just fight few robots in few singleplayer like levels.

There was supposed to be more of that but it was cut. Like the original training/intro portion that was kind of like nyleve's falls but with the egyptian setting. You were supposed to break obstacles and climb down a mountain etc.

It is present in the dev build and it has a huge ship in it like Vortex Rikers kind of thing too.
Its not bad, just some of the character design is a bit so-so, but the environments are really nice.

Then from before UC2 was even released they started to reuse some "assets" for the developement of the next UT, at the time unnamed yet, but using the very early UE3 at the end of 2004. There is a small leak from that that came bundled with the early UE3 Warfare game before that turned into Gears of War fully.
But that UT pre-alpha is more like the initial first UT4 pre-alpha. Also lacking content and most of the maps being just shells. Before it turned into ut2007 and UT3. There is a guy out there that hoards a ut2007 demo from 2006 btw. A small demo was once leaked even but it was only on torrents and it wasn't seeded so nobody got the files in practice. I remember being frustrated by it. It could have been the same demo, in which case it definitely should be put out there but I digress.

Like there are always some hidden gems/cut levels. There's absolutely no footage on youtube of the early ut pre-alpha (the pre-ut2007 thing) though. It doesn't even have all weapons just few from unreal championship 2 that are returning and the only player model is Sobek lol, like Malcolm was for early UT4.

But yea with UC2 any real singleplayer content was kill....

UT3 didn't even get close though it was refreshingly something else in the singleplayer ladder, turning it into a more of RTS like thing, but not having actual singleplayer content maybe except partially for the first training, but afaik you can always respawn unlike say with UC2 stuff.

Gears of War and Devastation games are technically Unreal series spinoffs without a direct acknowledgment and Pariah/Warpath from DE are partial spinoffs/alternate universes lol. WarFrame could even partially be considered as such too, Schmalz loves reusing cut ideas etc. That game started originally as a spinoff/succesor to UT called Dark Sector, they rebooted that game twice into completely different products while WarFrame is the closest to the original idea. But initially it was even like UT expansion pack material lol. more like UT: Dark Sector, some maps in UT2 started its life in there.

My dad used to play this game when I was little. Although he wasn't the best he had fun lol

I think 2006-10
Then it could be any UT except the very last one that was released in pre-alpha/alpha stages (though it should have been stopped called that, yea many maps were still shells but the game content was more than alpha at that point its weird, also weird how they made it public though that eliminated the "leaks" problem lol).

Can you look at screenshots of the games and tell me what it looked like the most?
