The 6 gen of consoles ( Dreamcast - Gamecube - PS2 - Xbox ) games have a really special setting where it's always colorfull and often in a tropical setting.

even if the story, narrative is dark, there was always beautifull sceneries with island, tropical paradise and so on.

with the arrival of the 7 gen, games started to look more morose, more dark and gritty, realistic but depressing.

anyone else miss this era ?

I think this reflects the realities of the time. The sixth generation of video game consoles is like the 1980s for pop culture, especially for music. Wild colors, explosive hues, catchy tunes. Everything is loud, bright, flashing, and shimmering.

And then came the gloomy ’90s. Bringing with them gloomy grunge. And “bright and cheerful” music is practically extinct.

it's peak gaming aesthetic. When I think of video games that's what I imagine, I could even say that the PS3 era's piss filter looks more stylized than games that we have today.
