I've had my PSP since I was 5. Most of my UMDs are missing unfortunately, but the modding scene is amazing. I've been playing Obscure the aftermath and it's pretty good so far. I've got a list of games that I'm going to play after this one. Only thing is that I'm stuck with my 2gb memory stick and it can only store 2-3 games at a time, but that's alright for now. I would love to refurbish my PSP but it's the street model and I can't find any third party housing's for it. Nonetheless, the PSP is an amazing console, even for todays standards.

I hope you can get a bigger sd (but maybe, luckily for you, you're not a hoarder like people like me).
But this way you can also store games you may like to play again without the anxiety of "the storage space is running out, I must delete".
I loved psp (both with umds and modded) and after modding my Vita I copypasted all the psp content into Adrenaline.

PSP is an all-timer. I love the Vita, too. It deserved better than it got. There was nothing wrong with it except Sony announcing an end to support far too soon after it came out. I feel like that established its bad reputation more than hardware itself. It was the best place on the market for Japanese games at the time, imo.

Oh well... At least the PSP had a good, long run. It has tons of excellent games that hold up even to this day.

one of the handhelds to custom mod hands down
best for retro games NES to PS1, homebrew game ports (like cave story and old Doom)
ridge racer PSP was one of my favorite games on it (get Ridge racer PSP 2 though, i forget the difference)

I would've loved it more if it had a bigger battery life, lighter and perhaps without discs because of the access sound.

The PSP is great and has tons of awesome games, but i find myself always only playing GTA on it lol. It is as you say, there are no replacement shells, but you do find some parts for repairing the button bar and other stuff like replacement screens, sadly no IPS yet. I got a PSP 3000 and a PSP Street that i filled up with PS1 eboots. I just painted the shell with a cool color and replaced the lens with a glass one from Aliexpress.

From here it doesn’t look too bad, it just needs a good cleaning.. ::dkapproves

I also love my PSP. It's has so many amazing and even today I still finding excellent games. Mine has 128 gb of storage (using a micro SD and adapter) and I'm really happy.

It loves you too.

I bought a refurbished PSP a few weeks ago and have been getting back into it. I've found that, despite owning a bunch of emulation handhelds, I've found myself actually using the PSP. It just has a draw those devices don't seem to give me for whatever reason.

Same and I agree. Although I'd definitely argue the whole memory card thing was one of the things wrong with it from the bat. I was an early adopter and that put off a lot of people I spoke to about it. People would also say it had "no games" a few months after launch because Sony really only had that launch period and dumped focused first party support right after. I also still remember the E3, either following the launch or year after, where the Vita got no spotlight whatsoever, which pretty much confirmed they were done with it. And in turn I was done with them.

This console was just so great, it is totally still playable today

Personally I really want one, tho it is definitely not a financially responsible decision

I actually always liked the UMDs. A tiny disc that fits in the palm of your hand that you could just pop into the console. The noise from the drive spinning was annoying, but the feel of putting in a disc made up for it imo

I like minidisc players but I think for a game console that you move everywhere it could be a problem.

You can get one pretty cheap if you don't mind an imperfect second hand one, no? The only things you'd really have to invest in would be a new battery (Ostent is reliable as far as I've read and will only set you back about fifteen bucks), a memory card adaptor, micro SD card for said adaptor if you didn't have one hanging around and a charger if it didn't come with one (and you can get ones to plug into a USB slot of a phone charger these days).

I used to convert all my movies and shows to play on it, still save enough memory for the rest of my games and music.

Didn't need a smart phone back then, I was 1,000,000,000% contented with just a PSP.
The piracy was just out of this world. :🔥🔥🔥🔥:fire
