I just ran a ps2 game on a shitty laptop (2gb ram, 1.10 ghz cpu, no gpu)

What game was it, and what version of PCSX2? My laptop has 4GB RAM and AMD Ryzen 3 with Radeon Vega and I have trouble with some games cuz I personally just don't know what settings to fiddle with.
Requirements are highly variable from game to game true. The most impactful setting is generally the graphics upscale level and anti aliasing settings.

I had no idea on where to post this, but does anyone have questions on the experiences, on how i got it to run or any else?
photos, for people wondering, runs on a stable 30-45 fps, but reaches 50 when frame limiter is toggled. There is so much you can do with this type of specs man, people are just underestimating it

hack//fragments, actually runs well

Eyyyyyy DotHack.

Though it looks like your CPU is being waterboarded with that, so i'm kinda curious does it even have any repercussions in gameplay/emulation at all?

hack//fragments, new version of pcsx2, to run properly, settings - graphics - set renderer to software

none actually, other than playing in keyboard, game runs well if you're fond on playing in 30fps

Ah, well I'm on 2.0.2. Software rendering usually slows me down on the BIOS alone.

PCSX2 is a lot better than it used to be thanks to picking up some help from Dolphin. A fond memory I have is that despite using a fully 3D map, Super Robot Wars Original Generations emulated pretty much flawlessly on PCSX2 when it came out in... what, 2008? But Alpha 2/3 and Z1, which used sprites on a less-detailed 3D map, had hideous slowdown on the tactical map.
I nearly beat @3 at the time despite it taking hours to play each level... and then I lost my save in a computer crash.

I actually have similar experiences like this with PCSX2 and even PPSSPP as well, at that time definitely makes you wonder a little bit like "Man i can play Naruto flawlessly here but why the heck sprite-based games LAGGED so much? the heck"

I think it has something to do with having the 3D texture fields in 'layers' so that sprites can move on top of or behind them, but that's guessing based on the symptom rather than any real knowledge of the system.

try messing with the renderer settings

personally i think its the rendering distance the game sets by default, wish we can just modify that

I remember running Ico on an old laptop i had and thought the thing would catch on fire… massive stuttering during the opening cutscene. Not sure i even got as far as any gameplay as i knew if my laptop is struggling this hard its best just delete the game and emulator

why? isn't it slower with that mode? Also, try dynasty warriors gundam. Or any musou series.
Some games the software renderer works way better on for reasons that defy me.

Ps2 emulation has come a long way. I remember struggling to get good speeds on a halfway decent (at the time) gaming rig, and now I've been able to run nearly everything smoothly on my current potato PC.

Impressive, looks like a good candidate for a batocera installation😈
