That is the single stupidest thing I have ever heard regarding the matter. If a preschool teacher presented you with a circle and square you wouldn't have gotten away with that argument "I think they're the same shape but presented in a slightly different manner" you would have flunked preschool. Things simply do not work that way.

The story is not the same; it introduces many new characters and concepts that were not present in Final Fantasy VII, it is by no means 'the same', and while the story is somewhat similar, it is only very loosely.

So, the first remake had Cloud (obviously), Tifa, Barret, Aerith, Red XIII and Yuffie (DLC) as playable character, but the second they decided to only added Cait Sith?! Please tell me that I'm wrong. I don't want to believe that Square Enix has fallen so low. Was the game at least worth the time?

Forgot to say it in my previous comment, on your first playthrough and in the open world, Cait Sith is the only new character.
However I'll spoiler something in case you don't want to be spoiled on other playable characters

Spoiler: Rebirth playable characters in NG+ Hard Mode

Sephiroth is playable during the Nibelheim flashback in the base game, and Zack has two combat scenarios at the very beginning and very end of the game. In Hard Mode, there are combat challenges with these two characters, as despite their brief appearance in the main story they did still give them a complete moveset.

It's kind of a tragedy I ask me if Square Enix had just left everything as it was, only that they had made it in Unreal Engine 5 the remake would have been better received by all the people ? Don't get me wrong I was satisfied until now there is a lot to do in the game and to discover they have already done that beautifully but yes the end can be quite confusing. I'm really looking forward to the third part I think Square Enix really has to deliver a lot otherwise it was all in vain this whole remake story. But there is one thing I am also looking forward to, this certainly won't be the last remake we'll see of Final Fantasy 7. I think Square Enix can't leave it like this but that's all future music, would know what is still to come!

In gameplay? No. But storyline wise, it isn't as ridiculous. Plus it gives out this theory the reason why the remakes of FFVII have all these add on storylines is because Sephiroth may have fucked up the timeline and recreated things as a God.

While i usually like schizo and insane writing of Nomura, in this game i don't
I absolutely hate this stupid ass time janitors and multiverse bullshit
And battle system is terrible too
I do like some side content and game art style
Then again im just happy to see AAA game not having this generic soulless hyper realistic unreal engine slop style
Zipped Yuffie's pants however is UNACCEPTABLE
I think part 3 going to be mid and disappointing, i bet they will bait people to think ending going to be different but it actually going to be same

Also if you really think about it, its not even a remake it's actually a sequel to original FF7 as stupid as this sound
if you want to know what actually happened you really need to play original, that will make you appreciate or probable hate "remakes" more

Oh well let's hope FF8 remake or whatever they going to remake and milk next going to be better

Seeing the comments some people here made about Ever Crisis is reminding me that for some reason Square Enix made another FF7 prequel, this one about SOLDIER P0 and a young Sephiroth as the first "real" SOLDIER but locked it behind a gacha game that's also a remake of FF7 and Crisis Core as a gacha game (none of these stories are finished btw)

And then they plan on putting the other Compilation titles like Before Crisis, Advent Children and such in the game as well.

Which sounds amazing to have an abridged version of the entire compilation in one title. Except it's a gacha. And not even a good one. Why is square Enix like this

Is it really bait if the devs have been open about the story ending up in the same place?
They said multiple times that the outcome of the story will stay the same and everything will lead into Advent Children just like the original FF7 did. Considering Intergrade brings up Deepground from Dirge of Cerberus and have characters from novels like Leslie and Kyrie as well I don't see them changing the ending. They can't lead into these sequels if they do.
