Back in 2023, everyone loved the 2023 Mario Movie. But now, almost everyone is like “this film is slop”, “corporate cashgrab”, “nostalgia bait” now. When none of that is true. And instead of being excited, almost everyone on Twitter is doomposting about the sequel. It’s annoying. I still think it’s the best video game movie, because it’s actually faithful to the source material. Just because your film has a longer runtime, don’t make it better. It’s better than trash like the Borderlands movie, the Minecraft movie, and the Sonic movies. Those films fail because they’re very unfaithful to their respective franchises and are just extremely unfunny and are a slog to sit through. It is also Illumination’s only good film so far, Nintendo made very sure they didn’t fuck it up. Because of that, it doesn’t feel like an Illumination film at all. Fuck the “professional movie critics” who gave the film a 59% on RT. They only gave it that because critics hate animation and they hate video games.

It’s fair for a community to mature over time, and while I mostly viewed the movie as popcorn entertainment, it does feel like the community is overreacting a bit , or maybe they just want a beatstick to punch, you never know with Nintendo fans xD.

That's called gas lighting. When I think of the Super Marios bros movie I think of the abomination that Mario Bros 3 produced, fondly, I might add.

I think it's just being hated on, plain and simple.

I enjoyed it, not a masterpiece or anything but it was fun.

This is and will always be a light-hearted kids movie made about Mario, it's not meant to be deep or give more for every rewatch.

Critics currently tend to gravitate toward ideology stories at the moment though, things that push an ideology of some kind, some will tell me it's a strawman and I can assure them, it is not, if I am being spoon-fed how I should think by visual media that runs for 2 hours, I'm not invested in your movie. I'm out. There's the odd Oscar bait movie they gush over but otherwise, movies made to just be fun and enjoyable are thrash tier for them.

Critics really aren't listened to much anymore either, I sure a hell don't listen.

Maybe it's another case of market saturation? with so many videogame based movies coming out between 2022-2025, the mario movie doesn't offer that much that hasn't been seen in similar movies,
the movie itself is not bad at all but it's nothing groundbreaking, it's kinda like having a dinner at Mcdonalds, you enjoy it when you try it, but if you have too much of it, it becomes tiring, then you start to crave for a better meal, in the world of movies, that would be something with better characters and a deeper plot.

i thought the mario movie (2023) was pretty good, but i dont see it as perfect. the film really rushed through its plot far too quickly and couldve benefitted from slowing down and having more meaningful character moments like with mario and luigi.

I'm really hoping that the sequel at least improves that, especially when they're gonna introduce Rosalina and i would hate to see illumination not do her and her backstory justice.

When it comes to the Mario movies I feel like its been missed opportunities when it comes to the stories of these movies, I think there is enough to build a foundation than just what they've been doing so far. I think maybe the public wants another Mario movie that doesn't just play it safe, but that's what companies tend to do nowadays so its understandable that people want more than just another Mario movie under Illumination. That being said though, the movies are mostly for families and kids, plus Mario fans, they're not going to go for depth, they want a summer flick hoping it gets a pass for the fans at the very least.

It confused the hell out of me honestly as I bought the Movie years later,and well of course there where things I did not really like the overall video still was enjoyable.

And well then the sudden shift from it is a great movie to its utter garbage confused me,sure its not a Masterpiece far from it but its not a bad movie either I would say maybe a 5/10 or maybe 6/10 if I am generous but people nowadays treat as if it was a 4/10
The story was mostly meh I hate what they did to Luigi and how the handled Peace but well..its not to bad either and the Visuals where nice.

I honestly have no idea why everyone, well, it is Twitter, so that's enough said regardless of that fact. The original Mario Bros. movie, yes, the live-action one, yes, it was a train wreck. It was entertaining enough as a movie. I actually kind of liked the dystopian Blade Runner feel of that movie, but we aren’t talking about it.

No, I have no idea why people turned on the original illumination Mario movie. It’s still a pretty good film for what it is, and yes, any video game movie is more or less a big commercial for the series, there is no getting around that fact.
But I watched the trailers for the new Mario movie, and it looks absolutely fine.
I might actually watch it as well. I didn’t think I would like the first one, but it turns out I did. Maybe people are turning on the movies due to, well, Nintendo being Nintendo a greedy asshole of a company.

Now, I don’t fault them for wanting to protect their IPs any company would.
And if you were in the president of Nintendo’s place, you would as well. Or hell, any company.

As for the Sonic movies, eh, they were so-so. I didn’t hate them, but I’m not going to rewatch them anytime soon either. Borderlands was a complete trashfire of a movie, but the games didn’t have a really strong story either.
It was more edgy, adult humor, if you can call it humor.

Much like with the live-action Zelda movie coming out in 2027, I don’t know if that will flop or not. If Nintendo is as hardcore about making sure it’s good as they were with the first Mario movie by Illumination, then it should be at least a good fantasy film, at worst. Well, we may not get another one. But I digress.

It’s basically a bunch of echo chamber idiots on Twitter spouting off the hate of the day. Don’t pay them any mind, most people on Twitter live in an echo chamber anyway.

But then again it´s the same people that are tyring their best to kill an upcoming medieval game because when they asked the dev if it will have modern representation "in a medieval focused game" The dev responded with no they want to make a fun game they would enjoy and not focus on modern politcal bullshit.

Ignore the haters and vocal minority online. This is news to me but I am not surprised. The grifters and bandwagon jumpers is all they do. They are parasites with nothing better to do in their lives.But pretend, hate, and are never truly happy with themselves. So they tried to force their miseries on to other people. I like the first movie and I cannot wait for the sequel. I've always been more of a Sonic fans, but I never hated Mario. I am glad both of these games have successful film franchises that exist. That makes us all winners. Most actual real people like these movies or don't mind them.
