Anime I Just Can't Get Into Yugioh 5Ds

HOW IT ACTUALLY GOES;
COP; Stop right there! You're under arrest!

COP; Well too bad for you I have this hacking program that forces your motorcycle into neutral, now we have to play a children's card game to decide whether or not I get to arrest you.
PERP; Jokes on you I run Baronne Le Fleur Tearlaments Turbo!
COP; Crap, I only run Ojamas and Armed Dragons! Well you win, I have no choice but to let you go.
PERP; The justice system fails again! Latter loser!
COP; I am bad at my job.

CARD GAMES ON MOTORCYCLES IS BORING;
(I'm just gonna make up cards to help get to the point more quickly.)
YUSEI; Alright Jack it's time to finally end this rivalry once and for all!
JACK; Okay Yusei, let's see if you can keep up with the Master of Faster!
(They start the race driving side by side.)
YUSEI; First I play Hazbin Hotel, a Field Spell which lets me special summon as many monsters as I can from my Hand! I play Eternally Damned Vaggie, Alastor the Radio Demon and Warrior Undyne!
JACK; Not so fast Yusei! In response to your special summoning I can special summon the Doom Slayer from my Hand wiping your entire board! It's my turn now and I attack your Life Points directly!
YUSEI; Dammit I lost the first turn!
JACK; That's right Yusei, now I'm able to take the lead in this "race"!
(Jack drives up a few feet ahead, Yusei just lets him.)
YUSEI; Because you destroyed my Warrior Undyne, I'm able to special summon Undyne the Undying! On top of that I normal summon Frisk the Fallen Human!
JACK; Oh that's rich Yusei, well I can just discard 2 cards to trigger my Doom Slayer's field wipe again!
YUSEI; Think again Jack! In response to Frisk being in danger, my Toriel is special summoned wiping out your Doom Slayer and negating his effect! Now I attack your Life Points directly!
JACK; Piss wankers! Well fine then Yusei I guess you take the lead....for now!
(Jack then sits there letting Yusei drive up a few feet in front of him.)

It's like Konami or what have you had such little faith in the product speaking for itself that they had to add in these useless flourishes that really do nothing just to try and trick kids into thinking they were watching an action anime, hampering what was otherwise a great story with a huge distracting albatross around the show's neck making it more obvious this was just a several episode long commercial to sell toys and cardboard. Suspension of disbelief can only go so far.....

That's how Yu-Gi-Oh! goes when you have to play children card games for the sake of a whole city (or the entire world). Of course, I agree that the whole story of 5Ds is great and can work on it's own but that how it goes when you have to add elements to make those cards buy by the millions.

At least, aside from the card games park, the story is mostly untouched. Imagine being from a toy franchise and dealing with characters coming from thin air just to make those relevant to their respective toys.

Again, this how shonen anime works in general.

@lalalal Funny enough Zexel felt like a return to form, just letting the card game itself and the high stakes attached do all the narrative heavy lifting. Sure there was the theme park train thing but that was more of a Death-T event than a central marketing stunt. Made it even more apparent the motorcycles were just a bad faith idea....

I watch and finished Yu-Gi-Oh 5ds in subs. I dislike the duel riding system not a big fan on motorcycle duel.

@Tyrranux I did hear that ZEXAL felt a bit dull at the beginning and things would start to pick up when the barian world is mentioned.

I need to give ZEXAL a chance and see the whole thing.

i like 5Ds especially the first episodes that have a real cyberpunk vibe but yea card games on wheels is kinda like a fever dream

i liked the manga version of 5ds more for the fact that the main character isnt an invincible winner and actually needed to learn how to duel big shots like Jack and (for the big surprise) Aki on turbo duels

5Ds is fine, and I found it better than either version of GX. I admit after 5Ds, I stopped watching anything Yu-Gi-Oh related, aside from that final movie to end cap the original series/manga back in 2017.
