i hate current music discourse online

Music is more of a taste thing to be frank. Whatever discourse that exists just comes back to opinions like how people fight over what character in a game looks more appealing, really it's basically anything that happens on Twitter tbh.

Anyway music is pretty cool if you just enjoy it as it is, just some nice tunes that you vibe with after a hard day's work!

What if you just want to be consumed by what you're listening to and expose others to the media that consumes you? Is that valid?

Music discourse is just the extremes of the spectrum now. It's people who only listen to Billboard Top 40 music and RYM pseudo-intellectuals who think nobody but them understands something that's been out for 30 years and dissected to death by this point. Enjoy what you enjoy and get involved in a scene that embraces that style of music, don't waste your time yelling into the internet void trying to fit in with keyboard warriors who have never been to a show. You'll enjoy music much more that way.

Ignore discourse. Ignore objections. Ignore any notion of decency. Aggressively preach your taste in music because it makes you feel things.
Make sure you blast your music full volume wherever you go. Headphones are for the weak. Other people need some superior culture in their lives.

That's no accident; it's the way platforms like Instagram (and, to a lesser extent, YouTube) teach the younger generations how to experience music: as a secondary act to a picture or video, only long enough to remain within Fair Use. It's kind of disgusting.
what streaming services and modern social media did to music should be studied TwT
this feels wrong yknow?

Finding out that there are some ridiculously niche genres that people only listen to because they want to be special because they "listen to real music" is really lame. Metal Fans are the worst about this. Source: Metal Fan.
get this, some people listen to music NOT because they like it, but cuz it "fits their aesthetic"
yes thats a real thing that people do, apparently :/
also yeah, i like some metal music (strapping young lad, damaar etc) and a lot of metal fans fucking suck ASSSSSSSSSSSS

What is this alien phrase I see? We recorded songs off the radio back in the day. Curse every radio host who talked over the songs!
oh man i remember trying to give the radio a chance
sure, across the universe by fiona apple was playing and its a good song and all but the radio host talked over the song
fucking hated it!

play noise music to someone who barely listens to music at school and gas light them into believing thats what mainstream music is!!!

yeah thats true but i just wanna talk about music to people and why i enjoy it and theyre just oversimplifying it and it just feels redundant

Im a metalhead and i dont need to dwelve into the community for my favourite music-genre because its a by-product not the main-dish . The music is the main-part to enjoy overall , while the Community is the confirmation that the music is beloved from other people too.

Hearing music for aesthetics alone is the definition of being a poser and those thrive only for the community but never for the music itsself .

I think we actually course-correct overall in terms of music-taste and value towards older works and genres .

Its still not in high gear and could take some more years to get it into the more individualistic appreciation while experiencing utter assholish behaviours of the pretentious kind
but more and more people understand that we are lacking nowadays in musical variation and dismissing genres that back then had a quality and an approach that is clearly defining the styles of bands and its Genre approaches .

The problem was that we took new music genres/Sub-genres as evolutions and rejected sub-genres overall by its oversaturations . This was the same with movies , comics and Videogames too but Nobody mentioned it or getting silenced as some kind of stupidity or lacking of knowledge .

For example : The Glam-/Hair-metal Genre.

I enjoy Hair Metal immensly even to this day but even i agree that the genre was oversaturated back then with bands that copy-paste the styles akin to RATT , L.A.Guns and even Dokken which many bands tried to break out of the formula in a more progressive kind of way ( Crimson glory , Banshee , Sledgehammer Ledge, Dirty White Boy ) or became generic ( Sinner, Cinderella ) or worst/best case -scenario ala Nitro .

The genre wasnt bad but the slimy high ego-attitude of some bands , the huge quantity of cocain and even somehow the constantly evolving weird fashion circus underlines the oversaturation much harder and more noticeable .

But suddenly the sub-genre vanished like a phase and got bad Rep because .... [ Reasons not included ! Please insert impulsive emotional anger commentary & curse-word here ! ] . After that Death- , Thrash- , Black-metal hits the scene hard and let other genres behind it because it was the huge trend that brought something fresh on the table . But now these three genres are oversaturated too and older stuff and genres became fresh and inspiring again .

At this Point the Future truly lies in the past . From that point on we get new material and approaches that can branch out again for new sub-genres and approaches again . Thats what i see overall .

OH MY GOD, MUSIC IS ART THERFORE ITS SUBJECTIVE
PEOPLE ONLINE ONLY TREAT MUSIC AS ITS EITHER PEAK OR MID WHEN THERES SOOO MUCH MORE YOU CAN TALK ABOUT
TALK ABOUT THE PRODUCTION, THE INSTRUMENTS, THE VOCALS, WHATEVER
PEOPLE THESE DAYS LISTEN TO A FEW SECS OF A SONG AND JUST JUDGE IT OF THAT, WE'RE TREATING MUSIC AS IF ITS THIS PASSIVE THING AND NOT AN ART FORM THAT CAN BE USED TO EXPRESS ONESSELF AND PEOPLE JUST DONT EVEN BOTHER LISTENING TO THE ALBUM AND JUST RATE IT BASED ON WHO THE PERSON THEY LIKE SAID ABOUT IT
I HATEEEEEEEE ITTT
anyways what do you guys think about music current discourse?
i post too many songs here.

As someone who mostly digs for obscure 80s metal I'm simply not a part of modern music discourse. Sounds like I'm dodging a bullet.
youre dodging a train btw
people arent accepting of differing opinions, if you like something too obscure youre "trying to be different" if you listen to something popular you get called basic
you cant talk lovingly about anything or try to talk about it
im glad that spaces for music exist online so you can enjoy yourself while talking about music, without having to deal with assholes that have to act like everything revolves around their opinion :P
