Yesterday I got the android emulator nox to play plants vs. zombies 2 reflourished and altverz, mostly because I don't own 64 bit phones wich are the only ones compatible with current versions and don't think I should because of the current economic situation and crappy modern os that plague most phones.

Thing is, a friend of mine asked if I play clash royale, to wich I replied "No, because it takes too much space for that kind of game and because I don't like the community" but I've been thinking about it...

Nox mostly I'm gonna ever gonna use it for pvz 2 mods, online games aren't my kind of thing both on pc and mobile, clash royale, clash of clans, angry birds 2 and team fortress 2 are all visually and musically appealing, but those games require a consistent Internet connection and a lot of play time, plus I don't like to constantly update games, I either download old versions of offline games, games that don't receive more support but are fully playable or games that sometimes require an update but only a time a year or every 6 or 8 months (although only pvz heroes and xenoverse 2 come to mind) and I don't think those sorts of games are that good or fulfilling in any way, you can't just pop in a match in tf2 or clash royale like pulling a psp out of your pocket or going to a direct launcher in your pc, you have to wait and spend a lot of time grinding, and even with friends I can't seem to get back on the train of playing clash royale or tf2, plus I don't like steam or the google play store (although I don't mind GOG, that one is good)

What do you think? and answer is appreciated, more if a personal or detailed opinion, thanks for reading!

Run, run as fast as you can from any bloated android emulators.

The only acceptable emulator is Genymotion, because it sticks to a pure Android experience without crap in the background. It is focused on corporations and developers but there is a version free for personal use without any limitations, and it works really really well. The only limitation is that you need the same architecture. If the game you're playing has no x86 apk, then it won't work unless you run Genymotion on an ARM CPU PC.

How much space is genymotion and how well optimized it is?

I first tried bluestacks, like you said it was bloated, then I tried nox wich didn't have much ads at all but the optimization wasn't the best, both in apps and in the main os, plus both were over 10gb, how much is genymotion? 5,6? Take into account that I have a i5 7500 with 8gb of ram, so I don't know how well it would perform

Can't say much, these free games as a service and always online thing are popular because they are instantly accessible, but the general experience compared to regular games tends to be quite miserable if you don't have a group of friends that constantly motivate you to keep playing them since either there's way too much artificial padding so you get forced to keep playing them or the whole thing aggressively wants your money, this is much worse with most things on mobile that fit this criteria.

But after all, it is your choice, I just wanted to get that out of my mind.

Welp, i found ld player for pvz 2 modding, basically the same as nox but less bloated and with less space usage, also with a better layout (32 and 64 bit aren't separated) and with better optimization, to say that pvz 2 reflourished ran an unstable 720p 60fps on box and a respectable 50-55 1080p on ld player says it all, thanks for the answers

One thing I would really like to see is more modding for abandonware games that got delisted so the garbage things that bog them down can be removed, even if mobile is the most used platform in the world there's barely any projects in there, it's just weird, that's why every time a old game gets a vita port it's worth celebrating.

Basically what happened to a lot of old gameloft titles like the amazing spider-man games, such a shame...

I also don't understand what is the point of not letting people get an old version of an offline game on the play store or app store, what is the point? you are forced to go through the most recent version of each app, it dosent matter if it's an offline game, a chat talking app or an online community driven game, you always have to get the new version, even worse when you can't access the older versions through piracy, seems like a pretty "happy merchant" way of doing things, why they're so restrictive both in payment/free installation methods and piracy? what a load of bullshit, the fact is it's always been like this.

Well, if you have space issues then it's better to fix those first. Genymotion can be from 4-5GB to 100GB, depending on what you use it for and the Android version you choose. The main concern is to find the x86 version of the app you want to run. Your CPU specs are more than enough, and giving Android 4GB of RAM is perfectly fine for most games.

That's exactly what they promote. My recommendation is to find games that have strong solo play, even if they are online. Not depending on others to play is the main reason to play a game.
