I found the Viewtiful Joe TV series to be a wild and colorful ride that captures the quirky spirit of the original video games while adding its own anime flair. Based on Capcom’s stylish action game, the show aired in Japan from October 2, 2004 to September 24, 2005, running for 51 episodes. It loosely adapts the plots of Viewtiful Joe and Viewtiful Joe 2, but also throws in original characters and storylines that expand the universe.

The premise is delightfully meta: Joe, a movie-loving slacker, gets pulled into “Movieland” when his girlfriend Silvia is kidnapped by the evil Jadow. With the help of Captain Blue, Joe transforms into the superhero Viewtiful Joe using a device called the V-Watch, and sets out to save Silvia while battling over-the-top villains in a world that feels like a living action film2.

The anime keeps the game’s signature catchphrase, “Henshin-a-Go-Go, Baby!” and leans into its campy, comic-book style. Joe’s personality is goofy and impulsive, often distracted by cheeseburgers, while Silvia evolves from damsel-in-distress to a powered-up partner called Sexy Silvia (or Go-Go Silvia in the English dub).

Only 26 episodes were dubbed and aired in the US on Kids' WB, while the full series was broadcast in Japan and later in other regions like the UK and Latin America. It’s a bit of a hidden gem, especially for fans of the games or anyone into superhero anime with a twist of humor and heart.

I remember watching this as a kid. It was before I'd ever actually played any of the games (But I was aware of who the character was). Might be worth a re-watch out of curiosity, and maybe even replay the games, I'd probably appreciate them more now I'm a bit more knowledgeable about things like Tokusatsu.

Same here, I saw the show before I ever played the games.

Back when I watched this on Cartoon Network I had very little knowledge about movies outside of animated ones, it took until the Charlie's Angels chapter and my mom telling me about them for me to realize they were going through actual movies instead of just random stuff they made for the episode. It made me apreciate the series a lot more.

Apparently most people hated the show and did everything in their power to make sure that it was not preserved. Which is bizarre to me, I LOVED Vietiful Joe to pieces as a multi-media franchise and was heart-broken but not surprised that it kind of faded into the ether

When I was a very little kid the art style put me off, now that i am older I tend to prefer weirder animation. got give it another go.

saw a few episodes. Liked it. Was more into F-Zero and Shaman King. :D But Viewtiful Joe and Ultimate Muscle were funny too.

I seem to be the opposite case to everyone here, I first played the games (and loved them) and discovered the series long after it.
Someone uploaded the entire spanish dub on Twitter a while ago, maybe I´ll watch it someday.
I´d also like to remind you of how good the opening and the ending were (they even had different versions as the story progressed)
