Im still shocked that there has yet to be a translation for any of the Hunter X Hunter games considering its one of the best anime/manga of all time. I know all of the games likely arent the best.. but to be able to be even able to play any of the handheld ones Id be stoked. Any news on this ever happening?

I wasn't even aware HxH had games. I'm a big fan of the manga, to be honest. Maybe it's just bad luck that the games are obscure. Same thing happened with YYH despite being great; games were so so and most stayed in Japan.

There was an arena brawler a few years ago but was nothing to write home about.

Ah, really? that's a pity. Carbon copied style from the Naruto games or something?
Essentially, yeah. And badly at that. The Naruto arena fighters are still the only ones I’d play. And I guess maybe Godzilla too.

Next anime fighter: Naruto x Godzilla

I do like the Naruto fighting games, but I guess I played too many and they started feeling samey (not that the Dragon Ball ones aren't, too, at least those based on the Tenkaichi template).

Wait, Yu Yu Hakusho has some solid games. The worst ones are the Atari Western-made games we actually did get. There's an overview of every YYH game on Hardcoregaming 101. The most playable without Japanese are the Treasure 4-player fighting game on the Genesis, the last SNES fighter, and the two Japan-only PS2 fighters; the most promising if they were translated (to me) is the Genesis adventure game and the Gameboy beat-'em-up/RPG hybrid.
They didn't come out in the West because the series wasn't known here in the '90s, and then when it was a bit better known, Atari had the license and was making their own crappy games, including their own crappy PS2 fighter and a subpar tactical RPG on the GBA.

I don't consider any of the PS2 entries to be good (and the least said about the horrible 3DO game the better), but I'll grant the MD one and YYH Final on SNES are decent.

There has never been a very notable HXH game, despite the series' popularity. However there was a trilogy of HXH RPGs released for the Wonderswan which I'd love to play.

I prefer Hunger x Hunger
