Time is slowly running out tho (considering the environmental changes).

Expensive yes, complicated yes, necessary YES.

If we are talking environmental protection and restoration, that 100% takes precedent before space travel, space travel WILL come after we fix our planet as much as we can, We have to leave this planet eventually whether we like it or not, the sun is going to explode one day (100% guaranteed) and our species HAS to survive to see the future and reach the stars.

I haven't seen any Star Trek related thing like ever but god-damn I really want to.

It's just gonna end up the same way, the haves and the have nots at each other's throats. And there's a huge dearth of science fiction on that very subject that wouldn't lead me to believe otherwise

Why do the water cities need to be floating? bad idea. Underwater cities built on the seabed make the most sense

The advantage of cave/subterranean colonization is the ability for more easy access to geothermal energy, but the problem is water and air. So why not just build on the sea floor? Doesn't require digging, you have ready access to water (of course, requires desalination plants) and air (via electrolysis) and you can still make ready use of geothermal vents for energy.

Sorry space cadets, but this is probably going to be the way humanity goes should the surface of earth have fears of becoming uninhabitable I would love to see colonies on other planets, but it is just not possible imo.

Underwater? I don't know if we can handle the pressure.
