Since it’s Sunday, almost 30°C outside, and I’m in a terrible mood, I figured I’d share an anecdote that happened to me recently—something I honestly can’t find a logical explanation for, no matter how hard I try.

In this crazy era we live in, where most people—young and old—are glued to their smartphones even while walking down the street, riding their bikes, or driving (seriously risking flattening any poor soul that crosses their path), there are still some who, for some bizarre reason, think it’s a brilliant idea to ring your intercom—or worse, your doorbell—without giving you any kind of heads-up.
I’m not talking about delivery drivers or mail carriers. I mean friends, acquaintances, or relatives—people who have your phone number and therefore should, at the very least, have the decency to let you know they’re coming over.

And of course, this always happens when you’re resting, gaming, in the shower, or just spending some quality time minding your own business with your girlfriend.
Seriously, what goes through people’s heads when they do this?

Anyway, sorry for the rant...👺

How about you? Has something like this ever happened to you?
Are there any behaviors or habits your fellow humans have that you just can’t wrap your head around?

30? Lucky. It’s 50 for me.

Relatable.

Seriously this freaks me out too. I’ve Mike audiophobia so certain sudden noises absolutely freak me out.

In general I think these people should give you a heads up about any visit. It’s just proper manners.

Yeah, sometimes back in college I’d find myself with extra free time so I’d occasionally visit my grandma and always make sure to call her first like 30 minutes before coming in.

That’s true. When you’re “in the zone”, it’s hard to suddenly drop out.
Anyway, sorry for the rant...👺
Nah, I like reading rants.

I’ll list one that’s recent. Sometimes people will honk you as soon as red lights become green. It’s dumb. Why in such a hurry? Another one is people crossing without looking both sides. Or people taking two parking spaces. List goes on.

Do u ppl live in barbieland?
Most of us live in CityJungles ::datadance, therefore we junglerules.

Its more about U than Them, if u behave likr a doormat, they expect and usr u as a doormat, everyones knows this, eccept u because u ar doormat.::badpc::coolstafy

I will go beyond.

I don't like people ringing my doorbell unexpected and I don't even like people calling me or sending me audio messages through IM applications, because these are invasive practices. But I don't mind telling them for educational purposes lol. Text messages is the way to go, you read them when you can and reply to them when you have the time to do so.

I also don't like people calling me in the middle of the night because something critical happened and can't wait. I have my phone with a stric silence schedule, I will see the message in the morning when I wake up.

The only people I allow to ring my doorbell unexpectedly, although it pisses me off too, is when they deliver any parcel to my home. And whenever I can, I select the drop off service somewhere nearby instead.

There are many other behaviours I don't like, for instance:
  • People arriving late or too early to a date (up to 5 minutes minus / plus to the agreed time is ok)
  • People mistreating things or goods.
  • Noisy people, who talk loud or scream for everything.
  • Families with annoying and noisy kids who don't get educated by their parents.
  • People who go to the street with a nervous dogs unleashed. I hate a dog approaches to me and touches me without my consent.
  • People who smoke in front of me, I consider that very unrespectful.
  • A friend or acquaintance that I am talking to, but is using the phone meanwhile.

All of them. Seriously, none of the behaviors or habits my fellow humans participate in, make any sense to me.

If a group of people are arguing online, they must always follow the same song and dance, spouting the same arguments and the same comebacks. If you decide to join, but say something that isn't part of the song and dance, you'll just be ignored. Which makes you realize that they aren't arguing to get a point across, but for another reason entirely. A reason I personally can't comprehend.

Then there are traditions. Which are yet another thing I can't wrap my head around. A group of people will gather in a large hall, all dressed up, and wait for their name to be called out, while they go out on stage, get congratulated, everyone claps, then they return to the stage. Whether it's a graduation or the Oscars, it's the exact same thing and it makes no sense. What's the point? Why get dressed up? Why are we watching the host talk for hour about absolutely nothing, when we're all just here to be congratulated? Why is their a scepter!?! So many unanswered questions that usually just result in the answer "It's tradition".

Then there's how upset that people will get when they hear about some random act of violence happening in some far off part of the world, even going so far as to demand that you join them in a moment of silence. Yet at the same time they'll also happily join a mob that results in several deaths, just because their team lost a football game.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
It's like everyone is just pretending to be human. Doing all of the things that you're supposed to do, without knowing exactly why it's even a thing to begin with.
Everyone is weird I tell you! Weird!
Am I weird too? I must be, because I'm also human!

The thing is, the only people that seem normal to me, are the ones with autism. Because they're the only ones that don't act like they're pretending to be human.

Sorry for the rant.

I probably won't answer at this point if someone rings my door unexpected. I don't live near anyone I know anyway, so there's no good reason why anyone would. It's typically a delivery, but here they just leave the package if you don't answer, so I'll go down and retrieve it after. If it's food then it's not unexpected, I'll be keeping an eye on the app that shows the driver anyway.

Calling someone on the phone (at a reasonable hour) is not an invasive practice though, come on now. Just don't answer or turn the ring off if it bothers you. It's a better and more straightforward method of communication than texting, and was the default thing to do for decades. Being afraid to answer the phone is probably symptomatic of a disorder or just being deeply asocial.

Living out in the middle of nowhere I don't have that problem but I can see why that would be annoying. On the other hand, you may want to consider yourself blessed that you have so many people that care about you enough that they want stop by.

This is probably one of the most zoomerish complaints I've ever read.

I get it... I think it’s because things used to be simpler—like, back in the day, you’d just stick your hands in your pockets, maybe whistle or check your watch. Times change. Recently here in Brazil, phones were banned in all schools by both state and federal law. It’s actually made a difference—people are interacting more, playing around, being present—but by the end of the day, everyone still ends up back on their phones.

Social media etc. is an addiction unfortunately, you can't get rid of it without cutting it out entirely. Rationing doesn't work, it just makes the relief greater when you get back to it, which feels like pleasure if you don't know any better. Meanwhile people who are on tik tok all day don't really enjoy it much because they don't have time to feel the withdrawal effect. I still think it's a good thing generally to ban smart phones from schools. They're doing it here too. I'm too old for that to affect me directly, but if I ever have kids I'll be glad for it.

Exactly, one aspect that terrifies me about these times of ours is this dictatorship of political correctness.
There is actually a lot of rhetoric and hypocrisy in so many aspects of our society. If you express (even with due humility) a contrary opinion of yours, you are hopelessly ghettoized and despised.

Yes, if you will. That's an optimistic way of looking at things--sometimes even a family member, friend or neighbor can be intrusive regardless....

I had honestly never heard the term Zoomer before. I'm really starting to get old....

My friends used to knock on the door without any prior "I'm coming to get you" sort of thing

They would do this to call me to play outside of course (look guys an RGT user that touched gra- oh wait it's Jordan we have no grass only asphalt)

So this doesn't bother me that much.

However a thing that does make me go "????" is botox practices that women do like goddamn who likes a lip that's more thick than a tiger tank frontal armor??

LOOK AT YOURSELF IN THE MIRROR you don't look more beautiful at all! In fact the opposite......idk if guys are getting into this too but it would look even more horrific on guys

Cosmetic surgery is now a widespread practice, one that many men also turn to.
From my point of view, if it's done with good judgment and common sense, and it can help someone feel better about themselves, then it's a positive thing.
Unfortunately, we often see — even on TV — deformed faces and overfilled lips, as you mentioned.
In these cases, cosmetic surgery becomes a scourge: a business tool that takes advantage of people's vulnerability at the expense of their dignity.

Yeah some surgery fixes some people but what we see is just hurtful to the eye to look at....

Well I dislike People and find it Highly Irrational when they go into Danger Zones like where Hurricanes are, or on Train Tracks to make Photo's of themselves or Just Straight up People that think petting Wild Animals like Bears or Moose is fine just to Make a Cool Photo. Some people I swear are just Suicidal. And I dislike People who bother us all in Public by making loud Songs Dances or Crazy Stunts just for there Stupid Tick Tock.
And I hate what I have to experience Quite often with bicycle drivers as the often nearly run me over as they don't see a need to ring there bell and drive just mini meters past me despite the road being very wide as if they want to crash into me.

Humans are illogical, so there is very little that surprises me, although there is plenty that irritates me, some of which has already been mentioned here. Let's see...

  • Answering doors
(will answer with butler like politeness, but hidden irritation)
  • Miscellaneous social functions
  • Last minute invitations
(especially if they involve the above)
  • Cleaning after others
(I don't mind doing it as a token of kindness, but some people can't take a hint)
  • Unbalanced dialogue
(getting cut off constantly, not really being heard)
  • Having things shunted around (things have places they belong in for a reason)
  • People being rude or crass
(I dislike doing that but it seems it is the only way some people will actually listen)

    The list goes on, really.

I agree with pretty much everything, especially about those people you mentioned — the ones who pretend to listen or only half-listen, already thinking about how they're going to respond. In reality, there are countless body signals that speak louder than a thousand words...

I hate it when people show up to my house unannounced, specially now that I have a baby with the most messed up sleep schedule in history. My home is NOT public property, nor are you given a pass just because I know you.

But the thing that truly grinds my gears is when they start pounding on the door immediately after showing up. Use your fucking phone, or your voice, or, I don't know, the DOORBELL. Fucking anything but your fists!

It honestly confuses me how people get so caught up on how complete strangers chose to live or spend their time. The bizarre need to control or correct someone that you'll never even meet in person, it's just an odd behavior to have. As long as you're not hurting or upsetting anyone, live and let live.

online arguments have no reasoning behind them other than "man im bored i should argue online". nobody involved cares about it five minutes after they log off i assure you. so dont worry about it.

the behaviour i dont understand from people is when they act to ruin someone's mood deliberately. i work interacting with the public and there's always someone who wants to ruin your day it can be either an old lady or a dumb guy but i cant understand where the malice to act that way comes from. like, what do you get from tiring yourself and making us tired as well?
