I love how there are basically no standards for how zombie apocalypses work, aside for a few technicalities on how the infection spreads (bites being the only hard-and-fast rule the majority of writers seem to respect).

What would you do in case zombies came to town?

Would you entrench yourself/make a stronghold and hold out?

Would you become mobile and raid for supplies as you go?

Would you even repurpose a vehicle to try and make a mobile base out of it?

Something else entirely?

There are no wrong answers here, only deadly ones ;D!

I personally think that my best bet would be to bobby trap and fortify my current location, maybe stepping out father for supplies as soon as local foraging goes south. Seems like something I'd do.

But the idea of equipping a van or something and just use that to basically live through this thing has always been in my mind as well -- a mattress at the back of a vehicle could be the nicest thing you'll gonna get.

What about you?

I trust that a hot Chinese woman would save me , if that doesn't happen then I guess I'll go persona 3 on myself

The real answer is probably die.

But I'd probably attempt to make a handful of them my minions, having chained zombies guard the base of my tower would be an effective way of scaring off door-knockers and pranksters and JWs, as long as I can convince the council that I'm definitely not dabbling in necromancy again.

However, as I'm not actually a wizard in real life I think my ACTUAL answer would be to move out into the deep forest and become a hermit. Provided I can get my hands on an automatic rifle (which is S-tier against zombies since you'd only need one bullet per zombie realistically) I'd probably be able to sustain myself for a long time just hunting and foraging. There's plenty of edible wildlife here and the brackish water is easy enough to distill and filter.
Though winters will undoubtedly become difficult.

The coolest part about these hypotheticals are always that people usually only ever go as far as to think about survival, never "living" so to speak. Sooner or later just trying to outrun death would stop being fun I think.

You aren't a real wizard ??? All my life has been a lie

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't. Whatever I do. I'd prefer not to hold my fellas back carrying me around. I'd probly make a good bait though. Haha. ::winkfelix

That's a really good point, Tom.

I like how there are several communities set up with that exact goal in mind throughout The Walking Dead comics -- but it's trickier than it sounds: a generator would make so much noise that both the undead and the living would be attracted to it like flies, for example.

Medicine would go bad, batteries would have long-since run out or being taken; canned food would keep us in the game for a while, but that comes with its own risks as well.

Much as I'd like it to, our problems won't end JUST by having a loaded shotgun.

It's really fascinating.

I live in an urban area so I would be absolutely flooded with zombies. My chances of survival are low. ::sailor-embarrassed

If you are dependent on daily medication or need oxygen then you aren't going to last long. Insulin needs refrigeration, Antibiotics would probably be the first thing to be looted along with opioids. And the people taking the opioids don't need them because of severe injuries or terminal illnesses.

I would recommend just gorging on any perishable foods you find. They are gonna go bad anyway and you might as well eat them and absorb the nutrients and calories now so it's not so bad when you inevitably go hungry trying to find that last rusty can of beans. There's a movie about a major earthquake (Earthquake I think it's called) where a lady gets shot at by a cop for taking cake from a bakery. But it was just going to sit there and get moldy and eaten by rats and roaches. The whole city was in ruins. You see something like that just take it. You might even be able to trade it for something more useful since it might be the last cake anyone ever eats.

Speaking of trading, hoard cigarettes. Take every pack and carton you find. Even if you don't smoke. People are going to be desperate for those cancer sticks. They will make a great bartering tool.

i'd steal a corvette or a firebird, drive recklessly until i run out of fuel, then cobain myself

I rely on medicine for a chronic health issue, so realistically I don't make it too long in any apocalyptical scenario. I'd probably just use what time I'd have to try to get my loved ones prepared and to safety.

Assuming we're talking about Walking Dead style shamblers instead of 28 Days Later sprinters or The Last of Us clickers, I should be okay. Living in a rural area means that for a good while it would be rare to encounter a zombie at all. Add to that the fact that I already hunt and process deer and boar to fill my freezer throughout the year, I figure I should be alright.

Maybe it isn't sustainable long term though. My garden isn't big enough as is, so I would have to recruit survivors to help turn it into crop fields. I can reload my own ammo and have access to plenty of fresh water and food, so the factor that would lead to my doom would probably be people. Getting raided for supplies or something like that.
