The general discourse surrounding remakes in a nutshell:
"Ugh, the game industry has no originality anymore, all they ever do is remake old games."
*When an original game is made.*
"Ugh, why do all modern games suck? They should just remake my favorite game, it'd be way better than this modern garbage!"

If people aren't complaining that there are too many remakes. Then they're complaining that their favorite game is being forgotten and deserves a remake.

Personally I enjoy remakes. They give me an excuse to play a classic game that I love. If it's a crappy remake, ah well. I'll just play the original again. If it's a good remake, yay. Maybe it might replace the original for me on revisits.
And it's not hard to ignore remakes I'm not interested in. Much in the same way I ignore a lot of games I'm not interested in.
Overall, it's nice to see old forgotten games get a bit of love. The Secret of Mana remake wasn't very good, but it was nice to see, and it led to the Trials of Mana remake, which was good. Then we got Visions of Mana! :)

Sure, it'd be nice to have a sequel rather than a remake in most scenarios, but considering how TimeSplitters Next was turning out before it got cancelled, I think I'd rather have a remake first, just so they can figure out what made the original good in the first place.

There's a lot of good ones but for every 1 great remake there's 5 shitty ones. We've come to a point where they're remaking games that don't even NEED remakes to begin with. Sure, remake those old ass PS1 games. No one's stopping you from playing the originals and giving them a fresh new interpretation is great. One of my favourite games of all time is a remake, Resident Evil (2002). But that's an example of how you do a real proper breathtaking remake. Its crazy to think it was considered a "remaster" back in the day. I think PS3 games are unnecessary to remake. Same with most PS2 games. A lot of those games have aged well and play and feel and look better than their remake counterparts. However old ass games definitely need remakes. NES, GBC, MSX games, extremely old consoles and computers like that. We need to put our efforts into remaking games like that, as well as preserving the original games. I'm of the opinion if there's a remake of something like a Game Boy game there's absolutely 0 reason not to fit the entire original game onto it. It takes like, what, 500kb? And then what? 100kb to save progress? Hell, give us a digital code for the original game with a purchase of the remake or something I don't care, these games are going to be lost without the help of pirates.

I mean, its whatever, videogame industry is movie industry 2.0.

If you have been burned by one, you have no one to blame, but yourself for buying it.
Movie industry thought recently has been in a kinda reconnaissance a little bit there’s been a lot of good original movies coming out this year it’s pretty awesome

Any Examples of Modern Movies that don't suck. I am not much into Modern Movies as i got tired with the Modern slop so I am not that Informed on new Movie releases.

I don’t mind remakes. Remasters on the other hand…. I’m getting so annoyed with remasters lately. I remember back in the early years of the Switch I got so annoyed with all the Wii U remasters coming to Switch, like, i bought the Switch to play new games, not to play slightly upgraded ports of games from a failed console. PS5 and Switch were the main culprits of the heavy amount of remasters that generation. I especially don’t like it when the remaster ends up being worse than the original, such as GTA Trilogy: The “Definitive” Edition, Silent Hill HD Collection, and Sonic Colors: Ultimate.

I'm personally in the boat of preferring remasters over remakes. There have been a lot of bad remasters like the ones you mentioned. Even many of the good remasters have issues, Bluepoint's Metal Gear Solid HD collection comes to mind.

But I think remasters serve a genuine purpose by making these older titles more accessible. In the best scenarios they allow people who never had the chance to experience older titles a way to play them on modern platforms or just a more convenient way to play older titles without having to dig out old consoles. I recently picked up the switch version of KOTOR just because it's more convenient than digging out my Xbox or fixing the PC port (plus no controller support). It's just nice to have as an option. It's no different than old movies or TV shows getting a Blu-ray release.

It's when remasters start making substantial changes to the visuals, sound and gameplay that I start to take issue with them. They start to become more akin to a Star Wars Special Edition situation where they just needlessly tamper with a game in a attempt to "improve" it as a way to justify re-releasing an old title.

When you go in and start making changes to a game like that you risk making things worse. Maybe the way you interpreted something to look with the low-poly models or lower resolution textures doesn't line up with how the artist who remade those assets interpreted them. Or maybe you make a change to the gameplay that seems like an improvement but ultimately ends up clashing with the rest of the games design.

A good example would be a few months ago when Ninja Gaiden Black 2 restored the original enemy count from the Xbox 360 release, but kept Sigma 2's increased health pools resulting in the game becoming much harder than it was ever intended to be. (I think they fixed this with a patch though.)

I know I'm mostly in the minority on this but I can't help but feel that something as simple as reselling the exact same game presented in widescreen with a higher rendering resolution and an improved frame rate would be a definite improvement that would add value and even result in a better experience than you'd get by simply playing the original release.

Novocaine(fun action movie) Mickey17(Fun Sci-fi) Sinners (good horror) Bring Her Back (good horror) Ballerina was good I mean I guess its original but it is in the John wick verse. These are the few I watched so far but I’m also interested in the new Wes Anderson Movie. How to train your dragon live action looks amazing

Video game remakes just kills creativity, game companies nowadays are too soft, just riding the tailcoat of success of the past instead of making new innovations, but, oh well, as long as they can milk your wallet dry by buying the same game for the 5th or 10000th time, they couldn't care less about what you think about them

HD remasters are a quick and safe cash grab for these companies. I'm sure by now that most people have already played these HD remasters on their emulators with desired settings. I understand that this would be for the gamers that just want to sit down, push a button on the console, and play something without tinkering with anything. But I can't help but find it to be as lazy as it is safe even if it works as a business practice. I also don't agree with how just because something is being remade or remastered, that it would be okay to start straying away from the original content instead of just leaving it alone after that graphical fidelity polish. Most recently, Onimusha 2 remaster with the censored chest debacle. Final Fantasy VII Remake with how now they're doing some sort of multiverse thing to slowly push out the ones that enjoyed the original back in the day to quickly push in new gamers/modern gamers/etc. Sure you can argue that "Times are changing old man" but that bit would fizzle out. I'm 31 and have friends 5-10 years younger than me that enjoyed the original VII and all that was offered. There are younger people out there that believe that AAA graphics does not provide a AAA experience. This is why I always encourage people to give certain indie games a try.

With Remakes like Persona 3 Reloaded, I understand both sides. Day 1s of the OG and FES edition will complain about how easier the game is amongst other gripes and newbies that enjoy the hell out of it, not knowing about the original for whatever reason. My point of view on it is this: in the video game world, you have a lot of games that will provide their own personal challenges to get through to be better at it. It's not impossible, it only requires your time and energy. YOU WILL be bad at first but it's not for the long haul. Adapt and overcome the challenges to be rewarded. I laugh as this is what Souls people will say all the time and it's true. It's only a skill issue at first but the ceiling is very high and reachable. Also, I believe gate keeping to be important still. Just because you can get in, doesn't mean that things have to be specifically tailor-made for you to enjoy said thing and doesn't make it trash. It's about putting in that work to feel the same that others feel that's tied to your own personal experience.

Long-winded rant, I know. And trust me, I can go on. But I'll leave it here.

I hate all of them, all completely useless. All these people begging for ports or remakes and I just want new games. Give me NEW games! I don't care if Ocarina of Time gets 4 remakes, I'll just play the original anyway. Don't give me shit like "But now it's more assessable!" Don't care, get a flash cart or use an emulator. No excuse for this shit. If I wanted to play Sakura Wars 3, I'll pull out the emulator or use my Sega Dreamcast. All these port beggars asking for games that came out 5-10 years ago should be beaten!

Remember when they remade Super Mario Bros 1, 2 & 3 but not Super Mario 64, Sunshine & Galaxy 1? Anyways I felt like it got outta hands with Resident Evil 4, that was just a remake that lack the identity from the original (remember when you go to the inventory in the original and you would see Leon posing on the right? Not there in the remake) its kinda basic. I consider Resident Evil 4 a near perfect game and for them to remake it just for the sake of a remake is lousy. It was one thing to Resident Evil 2 because it felt like a massive improvement over the original. With Final Fantasy VII Remake I feel like it is the pacing rather than the remake it self is what ruins it, dragging things out just for the sake of content. I'M LOOKING AT YOU TRAIN GRAVEYARD!!! Youtubers already do that shit why make FFVII suffer from that?

I'm fine with the HD Remasters if it brings old games I love back into the discourse and lets younger people (the ones that don't emulate at least) play them.
I don't personally buy them unless they bring something significantly new to the table because i DO emulate (for free lol) but I understand a lot of people do not emulate.

Remakes are a bit different. If they are done well, I dont mind them. But that is a subjective metric so its really a case by case basis. I really enjoyed DQ3HD and the Romancing Saga 2 remake. I had really mixed feelings about FF7 Remake but I still havent played the 2nd installment if that tells you anything.

At that point just rerelease the originals.

On one hand, I tend to buy them so I'm part of the problem. On the other hand, it bothers me that the gaming industry keeps remastering and remaking old games instead of coming up with new games on par with them. Take THPS 1&2 HD and THPS 3&4 HD, for example. Why are developers incapable of creating new good THPS games?

Its a reach, but THPS3&4 remakes are there own games, since they dont use anything from the originals besides the maps and skaters.

This! It's all so damn tiring...

People like to complain about the lack of originality in gaming but if a game has a slighty different gameplay or some unortodox or offbeat story people won't give it the light of day

People just wanna be wowed yet they still buy the "new" Pokemon games.

Most of them are just rehashes with a different skin, like what even?
you're talking about the different region types and colors like with the last few generations since the 3DS. Most of the new ones are original though. You gotta factor in also that every region is gonna have dogs, cats, birds, ect. because those are the most common animals and people keep those as pets and of course that means cute merch that people will buy irl. lol
