How to make PS3 region free?

A lot of places online say the ps3 is region free, but the game I bought here in Peru says otherwise. I bought two games, GTA IV and The Last of Us. GTA seems to be a US version and The Last of Us comes from PlayStation Latin America. GTA works well, but no matter what I do, The Last of Us won’t load. I know the game itself works fine because the seller tested it in front of me in the store. My console, however, is from the US. That is the only explanation, bc my console loads up every single game I have besides this.

So…how do I make the PS3 region free? Does installing HEN or something like that, take care of all of that?
If so, is there a simple guide or video that doesn’t overwhelm you with all of the steps? If I try it myself, I don’t want to screw it up and make my ps3 unplayable altogether.

The place itself has been nice and given me options to return it for another game. But I was visiting and don’t live in that city. So if I did that I would have to pay to have it sent back and have the other returned to me. I could exchange it in person too, but idk the next time I’ll be close to the store. You can use the HEN Exploit. Tons of tutorials on Youtube. Should work if you have a USB Stick. Pretty easy last time i saw it and NO you will NOT GET BANNED. Sony doesnt care about the PS3, PSP or PSVita so you can hack it to run any games. I was playing a pirated copy of Senran of the Vita with trophies and all synced, and then went to my PS5 and nothing happened.

If I'm not wrong, Latin America counts as the same region as US, so it shouldn't matter anyway.
Maybe the game you bought wasn't original, and the PS3 from the seller can read those, but yours can't, and that's why it worked there? I don't know if there's a way to verify externally if a PS3 disc is an original disc or a copy.

This happened to a copy of Halo 3 for me, i bought another copy and it worked fine. The broken copies disc was mint condition so who knows.

Having used HEN to hack a PS3, I can say it's a relatively safe/painless process, and that way, you should be able to run pretty much anything you could want on your PS3, physical disk or not.

It depends on your firmware version but this dude has always made easy to follow tutorials so just check if he has one that matches your PS3 and firmware number

the ps3 IS region free.
there are like 2 or 3 games that are region locked, one of them being persona 4 arena ultimax. dunno about the others but pretty sure tlou is not one of them.

That’s what I found online too, but it’s the only explanation I can find. Considering it played fine in the store and not for my console. And my console plays every single game I have. This is the only from PlayStation Latin America.

i'm afraid the disc may be at fault or your bluray drive is dirty/dying.
if this is what you see, then it is region lock.

i'm from chile and have a bunch of US games, "LA" games (they all are US region anyway) and a couple EUR games and all play fine.
also have a secondary japanese account i used to get themes, demos and other stuff from PSN and all worked without issue.
my ps3 is a 3011, the 11 means it was meant to be sold in latin america. but it acts the same as one for us region.
