Hi I want some advice how to deal a ps3 hiccups last week I play Red Dead Redemption in the middle of my game then suddenly my tv got statics and no image instead so I rebooted the PS3 and I let on a av for while (my HDMI is fine) but this my secondary time I encountered it my first time is playing Ni no Kuni (which my game is sometimes crash for some reason) so I stop playing it

The question how will I avoid this HDMI hiccup

(And another Advise do you suggest that I installed webman fan this one I was thinking for a long time)

So, when you use AV for a long time you don't get any issue? if you still keep getting black screens it may be the Cell is dying. If not, change HDMI cable and test again. Also, test with another TV with the old HDMI cable. After all these 3 tests, if you still keep having the issue, means PS3 is dying. I hope it's not fat PS3 :(

EDIT: You can also test to reset the PS3 display settings:

Oh the AV is super fine and HDMI is also fine but I got scared to use it again so I switch to AV

I alright with AV but some games needs to be HDMI

My Question how to not HDMI not to static and sudden no image again, alI experience it was two times in big graphics like No no Kuni and Red Dead Redemption.

It started happening to me as well, but not often enough to alarm, just to annoy.

Remarkably, it happens more when emulating PS2 games rather than with PS3 stuff -- some oldies really make it sweat for some reason.

Take care with those "unbranded" low quality TV's. They have usually wrongly configured or incomplete EDID's, that are basically the technical info of the panel, hence the hardware capabilities that are sent from the TV to the HDMI when the handshake takes place. That can lead into stuff being connected to the TV and having interferences, resolution or refresh rate that does not correspond to the real hardware capabilities, to mention a few things.

That's why the AV analog connection haven't got that issue, because there is no EDID intervention, the source throws the image directly to the destination, in simple words.

But I insist, try another TV as Nebulon_Galaxy told you, if it is possible a known branded one such as LG, Samsung, Phillips, Panasonic, Toshiba, etc. Even a low budget brand like Haier could do the trick.

Also, do the video reset and change the HDMI cable. These two solutions are easy peasy.

If you test everything and find out it's the HDMI port of your PS3, you can continue with the AV connection, but I hope that is not composite but component. Otherwise you would be sticking nails into your eyes by looking at the screen :(

Try cleaning the HDMI port. Use compressed air and blow out any dust or debris from both the PS3 and TV HDMI port.
Or check the PS3's Deep Color Output. Go to your PS3's display settings disable Deep Color Output, and consider lowering the resolution to 1080i from 1080p.

It may help. It may not, worth a shot. Best of luck!

Maybe it's just the HDMI cable; it's happened to me, and it was because the cable was faulty.

So: For me PS3 is very particular about HDMI cables (HDCP?) while that is kinda optional with rest.
The real culprit that caused hiccups for me were some of the setting; The YPBRBCBR Super White and the Deep Color/ Deep black option.
Thinking PS3 is old, and my TV very new, and my Amplifier also pretty advanced 1080p fare I was thinking these are akin to the black level option or something. But there is already HDMI RGB Full Range option.
If you have enabled, or something has enabled these two options, Deep black/deep color and Super White settings, try disabling them. This likely will not impact anything as these may been Sony's own, or otherwise really dead extensions to whatever is done video wise over HDMI and likely are nothing impacting your image quality, but for me enabling these settings thinking I have latest and greatest (enough) I caused major hiccups, dropped signal randomly etc.

i think i had an issue like this. i took super slim PS3 to a local game store to have it repaired since it would not display through HDMI. (black screen all the time) they said they could not fix it. (i don't recall the reason) so it's stuck on AV cable's for life.

the PS3 is 1 fussy piece of kit with HDMI had 3 of them in my time and on my 3rd one now
I'm fairly lucky on my end still on a first-run PS3. Mind you, I bought it secondhand. So far it hasn't had any issues really, aside from an occasional lockup and hard reboot. But that's more related to the programs/GoldHEN I was trying out, not the PS3's fault.
