I like anime from all eras of the '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s and '20s and also that have their ups (advantages) and downs (disadvantages) in the plot, setting, character development, animation and among other things and all those decades that I have mentioned.

I don't have a preference for time periods when it comes to anime or manga. In fact, I don't have preferences for time periods with anything ever. While I haven't finished anime or manga from every decade, I'm not opposed to it. I don't even have a preference for genre either. I just pick out whatever interests me.

I do think that it's important to watch and read older anime and manga though, and especially the older ones like Astro Boy or Gundam.

At the end of the day though, my main problem is trying to watch and read everything that interests me! I have little to no motivation at times.

My childhood happened between the late 80s and the mid 90s so tend to gravitate towards Animes from the 1960s through the 1980s mostly because of two key factors:

Animation and tone.

Not only was the animation top notch - ever since Jungle Emperor Leo stuff like backgrounds, anatomy and eye expressions kept improving to ludicrous levels in World Masterpiece Theater Animes - when compared to their Western counterparts but itself had somewhat of a western feel/influence that peaked sometime in the 1980s - thinking of FOTN or Saint Seiya - and gradually vanished within the turn of the century.

And storywise, rather than just focusing on the plot from begining to end even skipping some of it as long as its not essential to the story like nowdays, just like American cartoons of the era, the filler episodes being integrated into the plot meant that instead of feeling like a drag or side step in a confusing direction, you got to connect more with the characters, explore more of the emotional foundation and prepare yourself to the eventual finale.

But I have no problem with watching current Anime even if its shorter to that exent, as long as its well written and decently drawn/recreated.

Macross/Robotech, Zillion, those are my picks.

That's awesome!

I just discovered Zillion early this year and I love the few stuff I found about about it. They do have some Macross feel to them but they remind a lot more to to Macross II: Lovers Again, a series I had the privilege and pleasure of watching years ago.

BTW. Have you ever played a game called Zone of Enders: 2173 Testament for the GBA?

While not a sim date, the human interactions on that game feel how those in the SDF environment would be.
