How often do you see the mailman these days?

I know that this is one hell of an odd question, but I really felt the need to ask it.

Maybe it's different elsewhere on the world, but the advent of digital bills and online apps have REALLY killed the trade of delivering the mail here -- and I think that it is a damn shame, since it was a bit of community pillar in my neck of the woods.

Nowadays, most packages are delivered by third parties to stores affiliated with their apps and you only ever see the actual mailmen delivering official documents (the kinds that you need to give a signature in order to receive). I could literally go weeks without seeing them and two post offices (one governmental and one private) have closed since.

It's a weird state of affairs, and one I could have never imagined as a kid.

Some people still sit outside on their porches or are mowing/watering the lawn when the mailman comes by, but it's usually only well-to-do old people or drunken crazy rednecks

I am actually on a first name basis with the mailwoman here.

I have known her for about 15 years, so I pretty often see her. She actually brings my mail to the door box <one of those hanging mailboxes on the side of the house> Though I know about the time she runs, so I usually meet her at the roadside, and we chat for a few minutes. I often have coffee ready for her as well.

I do pay my bills online, but I still get paper copies delivered. And aside from UPS or FedEx, a lot of the things I order come via USPS anyway. But as to the question, yeah, almost daily unless I don't have any mail coming.

Not too often but I try to catch her when a delivery arrives, same woman has been doing mail deliveries here for years now. Nice lady.

Well the mail before her was delivered by a guy but he retired and she got the job.

While I don't see the mail man going around to people's mailboxes, I've seen him in the mail truck a few times.

That sounds very useful, but also sounds like it defeats the purpose? I'd love to get physycal copies of my paid bills as confirmation, but then I'd rather pay them in person to make double sure (and I still do, actually).

Actually there is a purpose. When I pay them online, I receive a confirmation number emailed to me, and I write it on the bill as a secondary backup.

Because, as you well know, sometimes they mess up even when you pay a bill. I also write the bank statement number as a backup statement number on the particular bill as well. The bank rarely makes mistakes when it comes to money. The IRS makes sure of that.

My grandpa taught me how to keep an accounting book for all services of the house in case anyone tried to pull a fast one on me (which they did, twice... But I had both the money and the papers to back myself up).

If for whatever reason say the power company were to lose the statement showing I did in fact pay the bill and the confirmation number proving it, the bank statement number would prove that the money had been transferred to them.

The bank is not going to lie for either party if proof is shown.

The mail trucks I see often and pretty regularly. Though I heard they plan on closing all of the local post offices and the mail will all be handled by the one major county post office. I always do my best to avoid contact so even if they drop off something I been expecting in the mailbox and then I see them taking their break right at it, I will wait until I see them gone :P

Here bills are still delivered physically so every month I see one of them for sure. And then between every month you can see them here stubbornly ringing doors to deliver legal papers that gotta be delivered in person.

I don't know if I'm new or if someone else in my country only arrives in packages as they don't buy online, there's no such thing as a postman, there's only the Post Office, which is dressed in yellow and delivers packages, not here.American movie postmen

My apartment is two floors, and just the kitchen and living room are on the ground floor, so it's kind of rare to actually see them because I'm on the upper floor most of the time.

Had an early-bird package I forgot about arrive at like 1am a few weeks ago and I was down doing something right as they passed by and slammed in my mailbox in the dead of night, and it scared the actual shit out of me.

I've never thought about whether or not the people who deliver the mail here are always the same people. Kind of interesting how that seems to be the case for so many in this thread.

With us they come every day only the problem is that sometimes they lose things and then there is always unnecessary stress with them. I am lucky that I don't get much stuff from them but I keep hearing how neighbors get upset about these people.

My friend from Wetzlar says that the packages are always damaged, for some reason.
