This is alien thinking to me, but I swear that some people would absolutely flip if something takes more than five minutes in the microwave.

Is this normal? Like, would you actively knock some points/stars off of a dish if you were to review it just because it takes more than a couple of minutes to get throughly cooked? I have seen that happen but I simply don't understand it -- pretty much anything else I could be making instead would take longer than that (and far more work), so it's not like convenience is lost.

It's just the oddest thing, at least for me.

Oh! And speaking of aliens, I'm finally watching one of those movies tonight. Hope it's good!

Well, for starters, I'm not sure I'd be thinking of stars when it comes to microwaved food ::sailor-embarrassed
No, I kid of course.
I don't think there is a "too long" in a microwave. Although where I live, it's most commonly used to re-heat food, or to thaw frozen uncooked stuff.
I'm kind of weirdly scared of electric things that get really warm, so I rarely use the microwave for long periods at all, anyway.

Kinda reminds me of when this clip was going around and I (and many others) almost had a hernia out of knee-jerk rage because me and literally everybody I've ever known ever would never even think to use a microwave to boil water.

I swear... That makes me REALLY scared, kinda like when people put water coolants on their computers (there was a "hack" going around in the mid-aughts that advised people to put icy water on ziplock bags next-to/on top their computers and I just *shudders*).

I KNOW RIGHT???
No clue why it feels like it'd be scary, but I assume it's due to the water starting to bubble wildly when boiling, and that just sounds like a recipe for disaster in something electrical like that.

The only way it’s too long is if it burns in the microwave....

I have seen my brother throw a couple of hotdogs in and accidentally hit 10 minutes instead of 2-3, and forget about them, getting side tracked, turning them into jerky basically. Like @Tonberry said, here as well, it’s usually just to reheat foods. Of course, you have those microwave TV dinners and such.

The only things I really use the microwave for are popcorn or reheating coffee... and not even really coffee. Sometimes I’ll chuck a slice of pizza or something in if I’m getting ready to head out and need something hot quickly. Otherwise, I hardly use the thing.

As for the original question, I don’t think I would dock points for something taking more than 5 minutes to cook in a microwave, honestly. I’m not that impatient, and I can’t say I haven’t used it to defrost frozen chicken to bake or use in other recipes. So no, I probably wouldn’t.

Someone left a Jamaican patty cooking in a microwave at work, promptly forgot about it, and it caught on fire. A charred patty was seen at side of the gate entrance, along with a lingering smell of burnt. I'd say he cooked it for too long.

Otherwise, I hardly use the thing.
I'm starting to use it less and less, but I have a weird loyalty to the thing... There's something about it being almost as old as I am (it was bought in 96) that really gets to me.

Honestly, I don't remember when this one was bought.

It's one my brother had and gave me ages ago when he bought a new one. I never bothered to buy a new one myself because, well it works and I hardly use it. But I get what you mean.

*Edit*

I think the last time i used it was back in September, i nuked some Chicken nuggets, i think might have been pizza rolls

Like Stingy and Tonberry said.

Also what happened with the new Food Section?
