i just found out about it. no idea where to post this but i feel REAL bummed. sure, i bet most of you probably don't have cable tv, and if you do, you probably don't watch mtv.
it was very fun to flick to mtv 00s and listen to some tunes from that time, brings out some nostalgic memories... all that is gone now though...

For me Mtv went down when they have a variety show in 2000s (although there shows I like) but is not same as the 80s and 90s but I like all his music (yep duran duran fan)

MTV shutting down music channels because of YouTube and streaming services competing, oh my. Also, Pimp My Ride and Jackass are my MTV shows of my childhood hehe, and I recently realized that Pimp My Ride is actually scripted since all of the cars in the show were not used again ugh.

I noticed that MTV Cribs is back with new episodes. I'm curious when they'll add anime again they did that before too.

I still watch MTV music channels at the weekend when im cleaning im sure ill watch a lot coming up to christmas knowing ive got downtime and it'll be the last time ever to do so.

honestly nothing much. I might grown up with MTV and VH1 but just like everything else things changes such allot like musik taste. Sure I still love Metal and rock but today im more in to video game soundtrack and Dubstep and Metal but compared to when I was young and liked about every kind of music. Well not much so today.

But yeah today there are other ways to listen and find music so it´s understandable that things changes and goes away or become something else.

It feels like the end of an era... Lots of those recently.

I haven't watched it in forever, so it's not like I'm gonna cry over it or anything, but it being gone feels wrong.

Oh wow i had no idea. It really is the end of an era.
I remember South Africa's Channel O, MTV and even VH1. Channel O is still around but people barely watch. I thought VH1 and MTV were still alive and kicking but i guess that's not the case.

I thought MTV basically turned into the Ridiculousness rerun channel.

The music industry is a nightmare of copyrights and licenses. You can't listen anything on YouTube/Twitch live without being bombarded with copyrights and I hate Royalty Free music because it's super repetitive/annoyingly and everyone always uses the same songs. MTV is just paying the price for this rotten industry and I hope Spotify is next, because what they charge for the right to listen to music nowadays is complete abuse.

I liked having VH1 on in the weekends a few years ago because the variety was good, but then they got absorbed into MTV 00s and they just rolled the same sixty or so music videos on repeat, so I was already kind of out of it at this point, as someone who actually watched/listened to these channels.

It was fun watching MTV 00s with my brother who's a decade younger than me though, telling him trivia about many of the bands and videos that would pop on, especially as music is by far his biggest interest.

The first music video on MTV, way back when, was 'Video killed the radio star."
Someone needs to make a parody to the effect of: Internet killed the the TV host (but obviously something more catchy than that)..

MTV died when it became a reality tv instead of a music channel.

Can't say much about the american MTV but the brazilian MTV was the cornerstone of youth and countercuture in the late 90's and late 2000's. If you were between 13 and 20 at the time you WERE watching MTV, no doubt about it. Unfortunetly the rightholders lost faith on the channel with the rise of afordable and accessible internet and slowly defunded the channel till finally selling it out and becoming a reality tv rerun hell.

From what I head, the american MTV had this fate sooner than the brazilian.

It's a shame. A sad end to and awesome channel.

I liked "Ridiculousness," but that was literally the ONLY show worth watching. Everything else is garbage.

Being an old fart who was around when it debuted, it's kind of in separable for memories of my younger days, because it was just always on. You weren't necessarily sitting down and watching it, though you'd do that too, but it took the place of the radio in my house for a lot of years. Memorable videos were fun, MTV bumpers were fun, and I can still go back to that stuff once in awhile and it's a nice thing. But I also understand that times change and no matter how many times they air "Love Plus One" by Haircut 100, it's not a viable business model any more. So it's more of a mercy killing than anything.
