How Do You Find New Games to Play?

Outside of seeing ads for new games, I usually either look through sales or I deliberately look up things like "hidden gems" and stuff. Various ways, really.

For new indie games: FitGirlRepacks. I will look the titles up on Steam and see if the reviews are good. It's not hard to keep track of the big releases each month. They're always in the gaming newsThat site is obviously a pirate site and nearly every game released on Steam is getting listed there. I also keep track of the recommended top new releases on the Steam front page as well as top trending upcoming games.

For retro games I used YouTube videos, /v/ recommends wiki, reddit. This is usually only when I'm about to collect for a new console I haven't owned yet or getting a flash drive for a console I currently own.

Steam sales, Backlogdd and many more like ads, google, forums, social media etc

But mostly from steam sales, I like browsing through it once in awhile.

I look for stuff similar to games I enjoyed before, games from studios that have a consistent quality delivery(level-5, From Software, old testament Capcom/Konami ), top game lists from old consoles, games with historical value(from Doom to ET), also have a tendency to play whole series of games (Castlevania, Final Fantasy, Megaman, Shining Force, Dragon Quest, Ys) and lately I'm getting lots of game recommendations from here, like my new addiction Armored Core.

Usually if I see any recommendations online on a game that is similar to something that I would like I will look into it further. I might look at wikipedia, gameplay, general discussions online and reviews to see if it is something that I will enjoy.

Sometimes I might look at what I have installed and see if one suits my current mood. Sometimes I will have a game that I will be interested in, but I might not play it for a long time as I won't be in the mood for it.

Indies are what i really care about finding though. The big games will have their voice, indies not so much.

I always keep an eye on the news in the second bubble on the Switch screen (since I have a Lite), but I also look for "hidden gems / best games of that genre" videos for PSP, PSVita, 3DS and DS.

For newer titles, it's much easier since I mostly just have a handful of developers I follow to keep up with. Sometimes I'll see something from a Gematsu article that'll catch my eye as well. I spend a lot of time playing older games anymore, so whenever I'm at my PC I'll check RetroAchievements to see what games have recently had sets uploaded. Fairly often I'll see games I'd never heard of, or forgotten about. The "Game Suggestions" button is also nice, but really needs your account to have some info on it so it can suggest games properly based off your other played games. Of course, I always love seeing new games on the Repo as well, found quite a few there I'd never heard of as well.

i browse new and trending on steam on go on heavy recommendeds binges. i'm also a heavy browser of steam softwares, you think theres some weird hidden gem indie trash games out there you have no idea the insanity of softwares sold on steam. my wishlist is like 950 last i checked i think, less of things i actually want and more of a massive ancient bookmark list of things that look mildly interesting. vast majority is tiny/oneman indie dev shit.

For older titles CDRomance, the slower posting doesn't matter to me much since I have a lot in my backlog already.

For newer (or even MORE older titles) the secret is to follow a couple of indie devs in social media. They're always sharing progress of their games with eachother, as well as games that inspired them, etc.

Following a couple of gaming channels devoted to showcasing demos or small reviews is a good way too, channels like Wholesome Games, Alpha Beta Gamer, and a personal favorite in eurothug4000.

You can also just drop into the Steam discoveries lists if you're bored.

Lastly I have irl friends into gaming and we share our discoveries with eachother. Is not hard at all once you start to look.
