I have all of a sudden grown to really dislike them, whether in movies, series, games or even game secrets. This only started later in life. A few years ago I didn’t care much and sometimes even liked knowing things in advance. Now I prefer discovering everything on my own and experiencing that first moment without prior knowledge. Sometimes I even avoid trailers and descriptions just to stay completely surprised.

How do you feel about spoilers? Have you ever had something meaningful ruined for you, or maybe you truly do not care at all? I would honestly like to hear both sides (keep it spoiler free of course). Maybe it could even help me stop worrying so much about it. I wonder if anyone has ever spoiled something right in a thread title. That would be awful. :loldog

I did used to get annoyed by spoilers a lot when I was younger, but as I got older they kind of bothered me less. Obviously I'd still prefer to not get spoiled but it's not the deal breaker it used to be for me. I remember talking to someone years ago as well who made quite a good point that if a story can be so easily ruined by being spoiled, it probably isn't that good of a story to begin with if your total enjoyment and appreciation of it hinges on a detail being kept hidden until a certain point. I kind of got what he meant as well because I remember getting spoiled on Persona 4 back in the day (Specifically on who the true culprit was) and while I was pissed at the time, I still continued on with the game and enjoyed it thoroughly regardless.

I don't really care -- I feel that a good experience shouldn't be too curveball-dependant to work (and I see those that are as failures of the writers).

A few weeks ago, I accidentally spoiled myself a huge plot point for Disenchantment, but I didn't see its impact lessened any because the surrounding story kept it in place. Stuff like that has happened plenty for me when looking shit up and I really don't mind.

I hate spoilers. I also really hate the idea if something is old its ok to spoil it.

Rarely got spoiled (I have word filter when new shit released), the time I get spoiled is by my own self when reading random Wiki of said media.

"Why he/she written in past tense?" the usual bits.

But I don't like getting spoiled for at least the major event.

I have a bad habit of spoiling myself on new things I discover. Once I find something new I love, I wanna go online and absorb as much about it as I can :loldog

I usually try to avoid spoilers but unfortunately, it somehow became a bad habit for me to look up the synopsis of a movie I'm interested in or even watching.

Sometimes though, it does save me from something unpleasant. Especially when it came to gaming.

For example, I'm pretty sure I would have gotten the bad ending in Witcher 3 when I looked up the decisions that led to it in advance. They were all things I would have likely picked and my 30 hour playthrough would have ended on a miserable note and making me feel like I wasted all those hours. Got the ending I wanted and I felt pretty good about it for once through spoiling myself.

It also saved me from various missables, some vital ones that could have greatly changed the course my gameplay was going but was only available during a limited window. Stuff that would probably make me want to kick myself later for not noticing it.

Finally there's the spoiler from the Internet that saves you from bait-and-switch schemes in certain media.

It's not all bad. I suppose it depends on the genre and the context. In case of the above missables, I do try to skim everything fast hopeful I'd barely remember what I don't want spoiled and only get what's necessary to act on it.
