How do you feel about Mini consoles ?

buying roms

Well it’s buying a moddable small system with a classic controller, so it’s not really just roms. I prefer playing ps1 games with the ps1 controller cuz I really hate the Xbox controller layout for old school PlayStation games.

Nah. I have a Raspberry Pi and have put everything I want instead of having 10 mini consoles. Plus it's travel friendly.

Many gamers have criticized this fad of mini consoles by deemphasizing it as a mere marketing issue. I, on the other hand, have found it positive if it can bring new generations closer to retrogaming.
I have purchased the MD mini and 2 mini, as well as the CoreGrafX, on Amazon, and when their value increases exponentially I will probably sell them...😉

No large power brick, no need to tune to the correct channel, lower power use (CRT power hungry!), and small enough to stash away.
If you're after a more original or tailored experience then you've already seeked out the answers and hardware you wanted.

IF is the big word here. In my opinion they don't give a fuck about retrogaming, at least most of them. They think we're aliens from a different planet, why we enjoyed those games. For many, PS3 is already way too retro.

I don't think so, there are a lot of young youtubers who try their hand at many games of the past, with speedruns or simple longplays, and I am often surprised by their skill, because precisely at one time video games, especially in the home versions were complex to run because of precisely their high difficulty.

I don’t have any of the official ones but I do have a Raspberry Pi 3 with a SNES case and a Raspberry Pi 4 with a PS1 case.

I'm not following YouTube so much, the only thing I saw is that the youngsters are quite competitive in Tetris.

Those cases are indeed very nice.

Also got the coregrafx one, the cost is already increasing a lot.. it's a great one.

Despite some duplicate games and some not translated at least into English such as Jaseiken Necromancer and especially Snatcher (a pity!) it also remains from my point of view one of the most interesting minis.

I like them even though I don't use them much. In some cases having USB compatible replicas of the controllers makes emulation, on them or on other emulators, really authentic and fun.

classic controller
Those are cool actually, I bought them just for pc use

The pc-engine turbo controller is over 120€ online, glad I got one when it was only 30€

Yeah! I was happy to find out they use a usb port. Given that Sony licensed them, I was almost certain they’d use their own anti-consumer port, but I guess even a broken clock is right twice a day.

I really like them. I have a Pi5 always hooked up for emulation, but there's something about having the same form factor of the old systems (just smaller) that is just too cool to pass up.
My favorites are the mini computers like the C64, Atari 400 mini and Amiga. I never owned the Atari 400 or Amiga and I really enjoyed getting to know more about them.

I actually like them, considering my old consoles kicked the bucket (my Playstation was swept in the flood a decade ago, NES and SNES were sold behind my back) with no way to recover them.

I have a PS Classic and a used japanese SFC Mini (that my sister bought on Yahoo auction before the prices went crazy). Both were hacked so we can play in front of the TV just like the good old times ::chocobo-wave

I hope they keep coming out with new ones and grab more of my cash!

I'd love a Saturn or Dreamcast mini.

That's cool. To each his own.
My most wanted would probably be the Dreamcast mini, even though I have several Dreamcasts and finished the NA collection many years ago. I hear that the someone at Sega said it would never happen..😥
Second would probably be a Colecovision, but I think I may be one of a dozen that would buy that!

Waste of money, tbh. But I still have the controllers from my PlayStation Classic and they're pretty good for PC emulation!

It's only a waste if you don't enjoy yourself. That, of course, depends on the individual.
