Hi everyone, yesterday my thought jumped back to Galerians and had to think about the very dark and very gritty atmosphere. With today's gaming landscape something like this I haven't seen in gaming anymore unfortunately. When you first seen the cover were you intrigued by it to try it? How was your experience with it ?

Damn fun, even if it's an acquired taste due to its focus on timing and micromanagement of powers.

funky, died istantly because i went berserk. When i played it i didn't knew english so i couln't go far. Aroud 10 years later i played again and really enjoyed, it was a cool mix between classic horror and psychological horror. i still need to play the sequel on ps2

Haha, yeah I remember when I first played it, and went into overdrive mode, I was confused, basically you had to use Delmetor to keep yourself in check. I was surprised this game was translated into German, it was slightly cut though, but I only noticed that later when I played the US version.

Back then goth/emo way of living life was so popular therefore seeing this game being emo stuff in Japanese sense honestly it was so generic and the camera angle and therefore gameplay being more like the Alone in the Dark games' way that new generation kids got to know it in Resident Evil series makes things more generic lol. I mean such games were "wow" when we played Alone in the Dark games but when they released Resident Evil 1 it was already "ugh not this generic shit again" and then the popularity of RE made people produce more clone of these type of games and therefore it made me ignore such games anymore with intense "ugh" moment lol. I don't think the game is a "different thing" yet its difference is in the way how childish it's in emo and therefore negative way that usually Japanese games are childish in positive ways lol.

I loved Galerians...its settings, the complex and mature storyline, and of course, Rion as a character. The controls have obviously aged poorly, but even so, it’s still an enjoyable adventure to experience today. Back in the day, I had rented it, but it didn’t convince me at the time, as it seemed like an uninspired Resident Evil clone. I made it to the second disc… I’ve never tried the second installment on PS2, which, from the few gameplay videos I’ve seen, seems to take a completely different approach.

Its an awesome game ! It had such huge potential and i liked how bizarre and gruesome the world of it was and how gorey it became.

The sequel "Galerians:Ash" was a dumpster-fire . It improved many aspects of the gameplay but became very tedious and soulless later on while alot of parts of this game just doesnt work great what it tries to be . I wouldnt say no to a Devil May Cry with psychic powers and it could have become that way but its obvious that the developers didnt had a focus how they should design this and even the story was a mess .

The first one is definitly the best and still one that can be inspiring for a spiritual successor . But the Sequel was an utter Wreck .

Didnt liked it in my childhood, probably wouldnt liked it today either, even thou i love RElikes. My friend thou, back in the day loved that game, although i think it was mostly because of story and setting where you play as a teenager with super duper psychic powers. Dont know if he actually was able to beat it.

Oh I didn't know about the sequel!!! I checked its video and all, since I didn't play both games but I watched their videos I think you are right as much as how 2nd game seems so over 1st game, however just because 2nd game doesn't have fixed camera I would wanna play it lol because it kinda feels like Baroque + System Shock + Second Sight lol. IDK it may lack the pros 1st game had but it seems it has its own pros.

Try it . Its a split opinion about the sequel but for its pros , it left too many cons in the backseat . I would assume there was total chaos in the development aswell .

Galerians is my favorite survival horror game, I held on to my original copy from way back (early 2000s) when I bought it at GameStop store for about ten bucks complete. I like the science-fiction theme that reminds me of films Akira, Dark City, character design, dark atmosphere, psychic inspired attacks, drug aspect, dystopian plotted story. Not many games took this route, only a two come to mind- Baroque on Sega Saturn, PlayStation and Fake Down (unreleased) that was going to be on Sega Saturn.

I first seen a full page magazine advertisement around 2001 that peaked my interest. At the time my favorite series was CLAMP's X, and film X/1999 and Galerians art choice reminded me of it.

I had a great experience with my first time playing it, around the time I was also playing Silent Hill 2 as well. I also enjoyed the eerie soundtrack that was fitting. At the time I created a few web pages online dedicated to the game, that's how much I enjoyed it!

Although I can't say I have the same appreciation for the sequel Galerians:ASH, it was a slog to play through compared to the original. While I enjoyed the opening video, and clips throughout the gameplay and stages severely were repetitive and lacked what the original game had which was variation and more creative design choices.

As for the OVA Galerians: Rion it was decent with the improved visuals and condensed story but felt it lacked nuances that made the video game memorable. The soundtrack was good, still own it today. Overall I'm a fan of the series owning soundtracks, art books, among other goods and would still consider Galerians (1999) one of my all-time favorite video games today.

Exactly this. Even the music reminded me somehow of Akira and the whole gritty world. Even the mansion where Rion was living with his parents looked somehow haunting and the painting metamorphosis looked very abstract as well.

Wow X 1999, I haven't heard that name in a while, I was a fan of the Mangas, Anime and movie too. I really miss the 90s to early 00s. Likewise with Silent Hill 2. Back in the day I only stumbled a lot of games by pure chance when browsing the video rental store. Awesome times.

I watched the Galerians OVA as well and was surprised it even had German subtitles. I liked the game more though if the reasons you've stated. I was happy when a sequel was announced and coming out but when I played it I was disappointed. Thank you for the this nostalgia down memory lane.

Also regarding X 1999, there was even a video game in the same vain as Psychic Force 1 and 2. Good times.

Yes! Psychic Force 2012 happens to be my first Dreamcast game I bought at launch in 99'. Very good times. I haven't played the original arcade, PlayStation game yet. Oh and a X fighting video game was also released on PlayStation X: Unmei no Sentaku which shared the gameplay of Psychic Force, it's alright I haven't completed it yet- but has many characters from the original series that's worth a try.

Played Psychic Force 1 and 2. Both on PlayStation, but caught that it was initially released on Arcade and ported to Dreamcast as well. There is also the Psychic Force Complete on Playstation 2 which has the Dreamcast releases of both games. Very cool. And the intros were very awesome as well and the music. There was even an OVA for Psychic Force 1. I played the X game as well, was very hard to get it as an import and get it here over to Germany, was also very expensive.
