How did you come up with your Playable Character's Name?

Getting into the PSP Monster Hunter games and I realize my brain just turns off when I need to choose a name. How do you do it? Any suggestions?

Try think of your favourite things, like a colour, game characters, titles (any shows, movies, games, books, etc) and animals. Basically anything that you like

Doesn't need to be a real name, just whatever words come to mind. Last week I started up a new run of Torchlight 2 as a mage and named myself "Time Killer." It's not a good name, and it's certainly not original. But it works, and I smile when I see it.

I usually use the name of another videogame character I like, and sometimes I repeat the same name over different games. It depends from the game, which name sounds "right" with it :)

I'm terrible with names, so all my create a character names are just my irl name. If you ever get the chance to play with me, then you might just know my name.

I was "encouraged" to do theater when I was younger that lead to tabletop roleplay, early D&D, Pathfinder and a maybe little too much of playing pretend in the fields with my friends. So now it feels wrong unless I make a character fit to be roleplayed in the game with a lore appropiate name that fits the setting!

I've gone with Jeanne and Edwyn for so long now that I can't even remember why anymore.

If i don't use my usual moniker i go with words that are entertaining or funny, for when NPC's call my character by name. I frequently use: dude, or cupcake, or something the like. Nothing steals the thunder of a scene like when a character thinks you just died and yells CUPCAKE!!!

I used to name my characters after protagonists of my fav books (like Wokulski for FNV and Lev Myshkin/Rayion Miushikin for SMT:P3P), but now im trying to find a canon one, so it doesn't stick out

Sometimes I search for a name used in a Novel for example in SMT 1 I use the names of the final story book. Or other times I think of a word that matches a characteristic of my character for example in Phantasy star Portable 1 I used a Cast and named her "Machina" because Cast are like robots and a robot is mostly a Machine, or in Xenoverse 1 I called my Majin character Jelly because the food Jelly can stretch just like a Majin can in those games.

I'm pretty on-the-nose with things. As someone who RPs and makes a lot of OCs I tend to just think of what my character's backstory is and then pick a name that sounds nice that relates to their personality or past in some way. For example, when playing Atlyss I came up with a character that is mystic (spell based class) obsessed with surpassing death and communing with old gods. Eschatology is the part of theology focused on death, so I named her Escha. Am I original? Nah, but it works for me hehe

If I'm self-inserting I just use my real first name lol

I either use my real name or just use whatever celebrity that comes to my mind. I named my last ttrpg character Mike Tyson.

Whatever's the "canon" name, if it exists. If not, I usually use some variation of Mute (my old nickname also haha get it, because silent protagonists)

On repeat playthroughs, I like to put in some random short phrase. It really spices up the dialogue
