That doesn't fall under the Fan Translations, ROMhacks, ROMhack tools, or Homebrew categories.

That way we can have a section for fan-based games such as flash games or other PC executable programs?

Might want to also consider one for Non-PC/Console/Emulator fan games. I know there are some homemade board games and custom hardware devices that also fall under this category.

Sounds interesting to me.

I just wonder if Nintendo fan games would be refused, since they are the ones that are sue-happy....

Then again, we've seen complete reskins of the Fire Emblem to Pokemon game, and it is surprisingly good. So i'm not sure.

This is something I'd support, but I'm a little wary... not only Nintendo, but also Atari and other companies are always looking to shut down any site that so much sneezes in their general direction.

Well, if fangames are dangerous, how about just homebrews?

Edit: Whoops! looks like we already have it! my bad!

It's statements like this that make me feel we need a ? reaction.

I would definitely react that to your post... ?
i guess one problem with adding another reaction is that they won't fit in one row in mobile anymore...
So either one should be replaced, or we should go for two rows of reactions!
But if this suggestion is real, it would be better to be proposed separately.

Edit: maybe looking at this thread could be a good start: Some custom emojis/reaction symbols to liked posts/threads

Or we could just, get rid of the Dislike button.

Maybe make a rule to not put stuff that got DMCA'd, then?

I don't think a forum section for fangames would risk this entire website. There's a lot of hidden gems too that will never receive any attention from companies either way.

This might be a stupid question, but would it help if you lock/hide the section behind log-in?

That is a very fair point. I, myself, love running into "hidden gems", but I just don't know what kind of thing they'd be after.

This is all a hypothetical scenario, however. I'm not in charge of making these changes, nor do I know the inner workings of the site. I'm mostly just exposing my fears.

There's no such thing as a stupid question :)

That might help, actually... pretty sure that's how we handle most things around here already.

Yo.. I'm not one to really condone having to sign up for a site and verify email just to access it and it's files.

But in this case, about this site, about those kinds of files, I'm all for it. ?

Yeah... it's crazy just how much of a witch-hunt everything is nowadays.

Twenty years ago, you could find sites like this one by the dozens, and all out in the open... but ever since Emuparadise was killed, it's been blow after blow.

I almost can't believe that I have been around long enough for this song to become reality:

Nintendo doesn't care about DMCA. They want to enforce ownership of their IP, and anything that vaguely impedes on it they will become sue-happy.

Case in point current lawsuit against PalWorld, which has vague similarities to Pokemon but doesn't use any of their assets or names or anything other than it 'feels' like pokemon.

Or cease and desist wholecloth on fan made pokemon games from scratch.

Or someone making Mario 1-1 in HTML 5 as a pet project and showing what HTML 5 can do...

Man that song is Awesome, added to my YT Music Library, and yeah you and me both. When i first gt into Emulation, some 300 Million Aeons ago -_-;; ... As you side, Rom sites where a Dime a Dozen, you would Trip over sites hosting Every old and Day 1 Releases of new games. and they D.N.G.A.F.

Now as you said, You so much as cough the Wrong way BAM! DMCA!
i miss the 90's.. not the Dial-up, but i miss the 90s internet

I like this mother fangame

I see homebrew and fangames very related as well and would simply rename the subforum. Too many subforums increase the chance of confusion where people shall create their topics.

Thank you, I've been waiting for someone to bring up this point. I had the idea when I first noticed the subsection lacked any variant description as such, and felt it necessary to bring up the subject. If it were a little more clear on what constitutes a homebrew in this category, I think I would not have considered to make this thread. ?

Well, if are talking subclassifications, there is also doujinshi to consider. Jokes aside, I support this idea, but let's not forget server loads. Legal implications are, of course, the number one priority, and the easiest solution is to disallow N IPs.

That said, one has to wonder how sites like Serene's Forest survive. My assumption is that all that is provided are patches, which cannot function by themselves.

That's actually how many emulators survive, too: "Hell no, we ain't providing no BIOS nor ROM". It's actually really smart.

By not leaving links, but just giving the name of the game and a description, that's enough. You're already in charge of searching for it.
