Hot takes

Zelda 2 is one of the best Zelda games

Mario slam basketball sounds better than Mario hoops 3 on 3.
I forgot but which region is the first?

Zelda 2 is one of the best Zelda games
Is that a flaming hot take nowadays? I thought the whole "Zelda II is trash" era from the 00's was over.

But I would still say that objectively speaking Ocarina of Time and ALTTP are still on top.

that's true.

but the original Legend of Zelda? That IS the best Zelda game.
Zelda 1 suffers from lack of story and not having a lot of tools.

It was innovative for its epoch but fundamentally too limited. Like with Metroid the third episode on the SNES is where the franchise truly started, the previous ones were drafts.

you're welcome. one of the youtubers that i watch brought this up at one point. it was one of the more political ones, can't remember specifically, but I recognized it as being very important quote, so i made a mental note of it.
It's good to remember major quotes (without making apocrypha because it's too easy to not check and make people say things they've never said).

I don't want to go into the political aspect but it's true that when someone asks to give up a bit of freedom for the sake of safety this is a serious red flag. It's not surprising that some are using people's fear to manipulate them and that others are wanting to impose rules while expecting to not abide to them.

no, you didn't make any errors with your wording. the author of one piece forgot that the main characters are supposed to eventually find the treasure stash. 1,000 episodes and they aren't any closer.
I think people just rob themselves to look at a high fantasy adventure series and place such importance on the end goal. It isn't a bug or a problem that the series has taken so long, its a feature. The fact that the series has managed to take us to so many places, build up the crew in so many ways and place them in such diverse predicaments is honestly kind of amazing.

It becomes so much easier when you appreciate that the end of something like One Piece is probably the least important thing about the series. I hate appeals to popularity, but it resonates with so many people because they care less about the ending itself and just appreciate the characters and the incredibly inventive journies that Oda puts them on week after week.

It won't be for everyone and that's totally understandable, but for people who love One Piece it is almost strictly a positive that the series hasn't focused so heavily on the ending itself. Especially true when the ending is almost impossible to make even half as worthwhile as the journey itself has been.

I mean it's the thing with fiction, it's not about Frodo throwing the Ring into the Mountain or Luke defeating the Emperor.

My issue with Shonen Nekketsu is that they tend to be a bit too long but that's also how the manga industry works, if a franchise is selling a lot of magazine preprints then it's better to make the most out of it. Even Dragon Ball can be summarised with 4-5 major fights.

I'm more interested in Seinens and short Shonens (or only focusing on a saga I love).

yes, those are good things. i'm glad that people are enjoying the series, but every story does come to an end. a lot of the time you can ignore the ending part because the story never really ends, we just reach a part where we can stop following our main characters and it feels like a good stopping point. one piece will most likely hit that kind of ending with no problem.
on the other hand, ending a story could allow for a new story to continue on as a follow up or take place in the same world with a new cast of characters and a new plot to form. case closed/detective conan has gone on for 25 years and is starting to reuse season 1 episodes for the new seasons because there's only so much that can be done with the setting and characters.
i would prefer for the story to reach a conclusion and move on.
there's also potential for a sequel story where jimmy and rachel get together and have a kid or 2 who can take up crime solving and solve crimes with their parents. it would be nice to have a crime solving mystery show with a family solving the various crimes and mysteries that occur. i don't recall there being many series out there like that.
in regards to the ending wouldn't be as worthwhile as the journey; there's a short sequence in skies of arcadia that does this during the main storyline. you go through a dungeon where a legendary pirate hid his treasure. just to find a solid gold coin at the end in a chest. it's a good reminder that it's not always about the end goal, but the path taken to get there.

Oh forgot a hot take I have. Falout NV is not the best in the series it has the great story for sure but not the best gameplay and mechanics and worse stability when it comes to modding even worse than fallout 3.
My hot take is that no Fallout game has particularly good gameplay, but I think New Vegas has the other Bethesda games beat in terms of roleplaying.

I personally think a lot of Atlus's moderen games suck. I think the only good game they put out in recent years is Shin Megami Tensei 4. A lot of their games just feel like they want to be the next Persona 5 which is a game I actually like. Not as much as the original trilogy but I still like it more than 3 and 4 but that might be me being biased as it was my first Persona game. These games where never all that hard but they are slowly stripping the other MegaTen games identity to be more mainstream which just makes them really boring imo. Oh also Doi's demon designs suck at least his female Demons they're all just woman and I love women but they aren't anything interesting like Keneko's designs

Tbh Fallout in general has better gameplay that most Bethesda games idk I personally can't get into their other games like I thought Skyrim was okay but idk just wasn't all that interesting compared to Fallout which I found way more fun

Zelda Breath of the Wild is boring and overrated.
This but with TotK lol. I like BotW granted not my favorite Zelda but I still enjoy the game TotK however is just BotW 2 in the worst way possible it didn't fix any of BotW's problems in fact TotK created more problems then it did solve them lol.

I have a hard time in general with shooting games with RPG mechanics, when headshots still are DPS rolls etc.
It took me almost a decade to figure out how to make Skyrim more enjoyable for myself, and once I discovered that it was by not leveling weapon skills until like at least level 20, the game, and even the combat, became much more enjoyable and tactical compared to the swingfest it's known for.

The best thing about Fallout is def it's cool setting though. It's got a pretty unique atmosphere throughout the entire series!

Oh yeah while I'm here I think From Soft haven't made a game that tops Dark Souls 1, Dark Souls 2 is well Dark Souls 2 it's just very hard and everything about it is very annoying granted I still think it's a solid game overall but it's definitly the worst game they've put out in recent years and the worst Dark Souls game. Dark Souls 3 I like from a narrative perspective but it's just not as good as the first. Bloodborne is okay actually but I find the game underwhelming maybe because I got my expectations real high cause everyone says BB is From Softs magnum opus but idk. I played a bit of Sekiro and Elden Ring and I'm sorry I'm not particularly a fan of those two but I will try my best to beat them eventually. And I'll also try out Demon Souls to see if it's good.

I agree. I posted my thoughts on this somewhere in the depths of this thread a while back, but I agree with DS1 being the best one. I like DS2 because it dared to try new things, and I think DS3 is just an awful, soulless cashgrab with no identity whatsoever.
I like Bloodborne alot, and I think Elden Ring is okay, but I have no real desire to replay it because it's so staggeringly huge, and I'm pretty sure I explored every single little nook and cranny on my main guy.

It's funny you say that about DS3 cause iirc DS2 was the cashgrab I'm pretty sure Miyazaki didn't even work on the game and Bandai just wanted another Dark Souls game cause money.

Yaeh I know. It's just that I think it's cool they tried a bunch of new things for DS2 where everything didn't work, but DS3 felt like a massive overcorrection and safe bets which just coasts along on the success of DS1 so they lift literally everything from it.

That's understandable tbh

My issue is that they wanted to turn Sonic into a beat'em all platformer with the Power formation but I remember how annoyed I was when I played Final Fortress as Team Dark.

I don't want HP bags, I wanted to see the end of the level.

Thankfully you could sometimes cheese thanks to the janky collisions.

PS: Isn't it funny how after a while some Sonic games, even when poorly received at launch, gets appreciated back (such as Unleashed)? Or even get a period of hate then going back to being appreciated (namely SA1 and 2). Hell, even Sonic 3&K at launch kinda got mitigated reviews from some for being like Sonic 2 gameplay wise and because 3D was introduced the same year.
I wonder if Sonic Boom will be appreciated in the future aswell lol

Not sure if i posted it already, but the sega saturn i believe had the best controller of all time, add a couple of triggers, a select button and 2 thumb sticks and it would beat both the xbox and playstation controllers in the modern day.

Popful Mail
As much as I hate Working Design's translation work, I actually like Popful Mail's dialogues and find them quite funny. Honestly, the real problem with that release is how those guys fucked with the difficulty but luckily there's a patch to fix that.

The Sonic 3D in 2D fangame sucks
