Hot Music Takes?

1) thrash metal - more like trash metal
2) punk music is v hardly music at all. rap is a better medium for rebels. but alas i listen to more punk myself.
3) the only way to find good kpop music is to listen instead of watch their music videos cos there's a lot of trash groups out there making it by their looks alone.
4) just because you know complex music theory and can perform them doesnt mean it's good. C G Am F is a great progression because it's simple. i don't need to listen to some tryhard tapping and smacking his guitar and overdoing it. sometimes less is more. this doesn't mean you should never go crazy on your instrument. im just saying not all the time

Worst of all, he hated Elvis! /j
Haha, Elvis! That guys would force his unwilling wife to participate in his various extra-martial sex acts

It's a Cancer in American society that is allowed to continue, in part, as a means to it's own perpetuation.

Another hot take, I think The Queen Is Dead is a bad album, and for one single reason. Morrisey is the most boring vocalist of all time. Like I listen to it and I think "Hmm, nice jangly guitars, sounds nice." and then Morrisey starts singing and its ruined. He sounds like an annoyed teenager I hate how he sings so much.

Electronic music is underrated and hated for no reason as it requires ton of skills to produce something correctly ( Musical knowledge and mastering knowledge )
Agreed. I think a lot of people have the mentality of if you're not using a physical instrument, you're not a musician. But I truly believe that some of the most forward thinking artists of our time wielded their DAWs like Rock Legends wielded their guitars. Look at J Dilla, The Avalanches, DJ Shadow, Aphex Twin, Merzbow, Flying Lotus, they all radically changed the music sphere without having used a physical instrument.

Despite being my favorite music, metal is a dying genre and will soon go the way of motown and disco as a niche genre left in the past.

I have never understood the appeal of Metallica. There's also many, many... MANY very popular bands that actually irritate me just hearing them to the point of near anger. Like the Beach Boys.

oh boy

-Sonic music is overrated, its good but there's a million different game franchises with more variety and catchier music
-Mario music is mediocre most of the time, especially the Galaxy games
-SMT 2's ost sucks and is too repetitive and uninspired
-Even before the Kendrick diss tracks, Drake was never good, uninspired slop that sounded no different from his contemporaries and even his rapping was mediocre.
-Bohemian Rhapsody is terrible
-Will Smith's only good song is ironically the one where he's salty he didn't make the airwaves
-Friday by Rebecca Black was all right and I've heard way worse even back then. We literally had Baby the same era and it seems now people are bumping that song but still hate Friday with a burning passion and I DON'T SEE WHY
-One Last Breath is mediocre even for Nu Metal
-The Reason by Hoobastank is great
-Nickleback wasn't that bad, overplayed as fuck though
-Graduation was better than Late Registration and College Dropout combined
-Humanz > debut Gorillaz album
-Sonic Adventure 2's music is 50/50. Half of it is ass, half of it is good. The ass tracks are many of the level themes
-Diamond Dust Saturn is better than Genesis
-Rusty Ruin Genesis is better than Saturn
-Sonic Mania's remixes were mostly mediocre and too derivative
-Neptunia might have the greatest music in video game history
-Dragon Quest music was never good

Damn, Definitely hot takes but the Drake one is kinda normal, people have despised him since before the Pusha T Drama.

If I may ask, thoughts on Kanye post-graduation trilogy?

Gonna be honest I remember almost nothing of post Graduation besides a few fringe songs and 2 808 songs

you are correct, "Humanz" came prior. I was not aware that it was considered an actual album (as opposed to say, an LP)

Fair, I have College Dropout above the other two but Graduation is amazing, Bittersweet Poetry is my fav song off it.

-Sonic Mania's remixes were mostly mediocre and too derivative
The goal of a remix is to be derivative. Or else it's a cover.

And I'll be honest but Tee Lopes is much better at composing than most other people that worked on Sonic game soundtracks.

-Dragon Quest music was never good
I disagree. And I certainly hope you don't say that because of Sugiyama as a person rather than an artist.

-Sonic music is overrated, its good but there's a million different game franchises with more variety and catchier music
Sonic's soundtracks have variety though. If you don't just think of SA2 (and even then there are like 5-6 genres).

Also what millions with catchier musics? Aside from Mario, Zelda, SMT, Kirby, Guilty Gear and so on I just think Sonic is still A-tier.

-Mario music is mediocre most of the time, especially the Galaxy games
While I don't see myself the appeal of Galaxy despite the grandiose orchestra I cannot genuinely say that Mario music is "mediocre".

Especially when even after 45 years some of the older themes like Underwater are still great.

I feel this position is gonna be relatively popular after all, but I find modern mainstream pop music to be utterly devoid of substance and ideas. I’m specifically writing "modern mainstream" because there has always been great pop music. I don’t view it as a bad thing. What irks me about it so much is that it low key has total contempt for its audience, thinking they only want to consume the same slop over and over again, whereas history has shown us that creative and even challenging music can be lastingly popular and successful. Whenever mainstream pop these days is experimenting a bit with a different sound it’s usually a style they ripped off from an indie artist that will go uncredited and will continue to live on instant ramen until the day they have to give up music for financial reasons. Other than the quality of the music itself the whole pop world eco system is just insanely toxic and predatory. I can’t defend it in any way.

I feel the same over all these schizos who cry like bitches about Ai art while the art they make and shill for is anything but soulful,
There’s a myriad of deep problems with AI "art". Not least of which is the environmental impact the software has. It’s basically just a plagiarism machine that spits out junk and takes away the livelihood of countless talented artists, especially entry level jobs in the creative industry. We’ll feel this and we’ll feel this hard just as consumers. This is a terrible development for culture as a whole.

Well yeah, but I mainly mean that that Mania's remixes tend to be so derivative that they're practically just the original song with better quality. Chemical Plant Act 1 and Oil Ocean Act 1 being good examples. Good point of comparison to both is Water Palace and Chemical Plant Classic from Generations. The Act 2 themes (except Flying Battery Act 2, I really see that one as the original but the synths don't sound harsh to the ears) and the CD remixes are fine though because they're different enough for me to not just see them as "this song but inferior." Not the hugest fan of Green Hill Act 2 though, I really wish it was just Green Hill in reverse for the surprise.
I disagree. And I certainly hope you don't say that because of Sugiyama as a person rather than an artist.
I do not, even before learning about Sugiyama, I genuinely have tried to listen to Dragon Quest music and I don't find anything particularly interesting. I guess I kinda find 5's normal battle theme unique but its meh

They do have variety, but a lot of games tend to just have rock as the focus, which I don't mind I must say, but it's there.
(edit 2/19/25 at 2:53 PM on Wednesday and I'm starting to realise that's probably because I only recently played the Adventure era games, later Sonic games Rush onwards are far more diverse, I don't think I know what the fuck I'm talking about here lmao)

There's a lot of genres that I like that aren't really represented in Sonic much. I really wish there was more experimental stuff like hardbass, breakcore, speedcore (come on how does Sonic not have SPEEDCORE), psychedelic rock, bluegrass, heavy metal, etc

Also Blazblue, Neptunia, various PC-98 games, Touhou, Ultrakill, Mega Man, Gravity Circuit, Rabi Ribi, Metal Black, Freedom Planet, Donkey Kong Country, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, Ace Combat, Etrian Odyssey, Yakuza, Puyo Puyo, Astra Superstars, and especially Atelier to add to your current examples, there's a lot of stuff that I feel deserves a little more credit ignoring the obvious ones like Touhou, Yakuza, Mega Man, Ultrakill, Ace Combat and Donkey Kong Country that I just listed. I do agree that Sonic music is A tier worthy, but it is not the best in all of video games to me.
While I don't see myself the appeal of Galaxy despite the grandiose orchestra I cannot genuinely say that Mario music is "mediocre".

Fair take, definitely a me thing. I just notice that Mario music just doesn't click with me most of the time, mainline at least because I do like Paper Mario and M&L music and forgot to mention that
