Hot Music Takes?

I think Kanye West's and Kendrick Lamar's music fucking sucks.

Anybody who claims to be a music lover but only considers one or two genres as "real music" is not a music lover.

Most music snobs I've met ended up having either milquetoast taste or were trying too hard.

This applies to all media, not just music, but not everything needs to be deep or meaningful to be enjoyed. There's nothing wrong with enjoying something corny or cheesy. Music as a vibe is fine.

Now I'm interested in knowing what you do consider music?
Classic music.
Punk and almost every of its subgenre
Metal and its subgenre.
Jazz.
Soul.
'40, '50, '60 music.
'80 and '90 hip hop music.

So what makes every other genre besides those "not" music? Also why the fuck do you consider the fucking 40's and 50's good and not the 70's?

Primus sucks ::winkfelix
Just called my father to let him know "Today, I am truly your child; I'm about to attack a nerd on the internet who dissed Primus."

Then I realized I'm not that stressed, and the old man owes me money; I'll honor the family when he honors my wallet.

Look up the "Primus catchphrase" ;)

Dunno if it counts as controversial opinion but everyone who praises Mega Drive ear rape soundtracks like Street of Rage 3 one and everyone who defends Mega Drive's sound must have serious problem with their ears.
you prolly just dislike the sound of FM Synthesis in general. (which i do like) ...but i can understand just not liking the sound of it.

Jenny Death is ass I'm so sorry I always see people calling it Death Grips's best project but dude I cannot stand like half the track list. Like yeah On GP and Centuries of Damn are absolutely incredible, but the voice effect on Why A Bitch Gotta Lie is ear grating, Pss Pss is so methodical and dull, and The Powers That B is just audio sludge, it sounds like the music is throwing up after drinking way too much. And like Disc 1 of the project is so much better, the Bjork samples make it such a cool listen, the very glitchy production is something I wish they explored more. (but they just broke up so whoops guess we're never getting that) Like Billy Not Really is just a straight up banger and the vocal sample barrage at the end of Big Dipper is so good. But everyone always tosses Disc 1 aside and only ever talk about Jenny Death. I hate that album so much.

I'm not good with music genre terms (especially since there are countless of them), so I can't say if I hate said genre or not. But the FM Sythesis music chip for Mega Drive is trash, that's for sure. And only a few games managed making good/great music with it. Mostly from Treasure and Konami. And a few Sega ones.

Not "controversial opinion" of mine but one of the stupidest takes I've ever heard from many normies is this one: "Why you listen you Japanese music? Do you even know Japanese?". Bitch, you also listen to music from languages you don't even know like French, Italian and Spanish!

Another stupid normie take is when they make fun of Vocaloid music because "she's not real". Bitch, you listen to virtual bands like Gorillaz! And to many crappy "singers" (mostly trap singers) that mostly use voice changer (or whatever they call it) when they sing.

Gotta agree that FM Synthesis is really hard to pull off with good results.. especially before the end of the 90s.. so MANY ear-crushing soundtracks where done with it just because they wanted to push out a game and didn't want to hire pros to "just do the sounds and music"

Nickelback and Five Finger Death Punch are both unironically good, and the majority of people who "hate" them are just parroting opinions they read on the internet, like total mongs.

(I think you definitely can dislike both of those bands btw, it's just most haters are just following the fads)

Also, anyone who thinks that it's lame to like nu-metal now, but enjoyed it in the past, I kind of just pity.

For me, it's the only musical genre I've ever felt ashamed of listening to as a kid because I can only relate it to misguided teenage angst/anger, so I sort of can't separate it from something that I consider juvenile regardless of the actual music.
Might also be that I never really liked it and only deluded myself to like it because I was supposed to, but who knows.

Feeling angst is a normal part of being a teenager when hormones are going nuts. It's nothing to be ashamed of, and if you found that nu-metal spoke to you at that age, like it did for a lot of people, that's a thing to be grateful for in my eyes. It's not a perfect genre, great bands make some songs that miss the mark and it can definitely feel dated/of it's time, but that's cool too. So does 1940's Jazz.

Also, nu-metal bands still go hard live and everyone know the lyrics, so they're always great live bands to experience too.

Nu-metal is one of those things I went from loving, to hating, to kinda loving again. I just find it fun to listen to, even if It's a bit corny at times now. I will still defend System of a Down until I'm old and gray, however.

You’re absolutely right.
Every type of music has its own charm and attracts many listeners. There’s no need to force yourself to like something, but it’s not bad to try a little bit of everything without prejudice.

When I was a teenager, I hated hip hop and mocked idol songs.
I was preparing to research those genres and attack them, just to mock them, but I’ve come to realize that every genre has its masterpieces, and I gradually became drawn to them. Now, besides metal, I often listen to Kendrick Lamar and The Idolmaster.

Life is very short, so it’s more meaningful to increase the things you like rather than the things you dislike.
Sometimes, it’s good to actually listen to the music you dislike.

This 100%! If you would've told 15 year old me that he'd end up being a Miku fan, he would have probably said "bullshit", put on Nu-metal, and walked away Jack Garland style.

Thank you! This one fustratrates me due to people thinking Vocaloid music is made by a computer or AI, completely overlooking the work people like Wowaka, Hachi, Deco27, or Utsu-p put into their craft.

Pornogrind is a legitimate form of artistry and I will have no slander.
I can't think of any other interesting take.

I agree with this one. Take Anthony Fantano's play buttons away please.

Yes, Gorillaz first album is their best album. I'm not alone

I also like their b-sides rarity album, especially for the "Soulchild Remix 0f 19-2000".
It seems Noodle as a second singer went bye-bye after their first album:
"Gives me conniptions."
OMG Psi Life Cypher...

Agree, I think people just see shit like “Carnivorous Erection” and “Aborted Hitler Cock” and write the genre off as pretentious edgelordness.

I wish I could remember the name of the band but they did some song about Aliens and it went insane. If I figure it out I'll link it to you.

Just a name: Frank Sinastra.

DJ aren't musicians.
They never claimed to be because they're DJ not composers.

Although DJs can be also composers.

Techno is trash and garbage, it should not exist. If you listen to that £$%& you don't undestand music.
Techno is a really broad term nowadays, anything with synth can be techno or techno adjacent.

It's like saying that "music using brass instruments are not music".

This!

Also my hot take is that Vinyl does not make it better (of course, there's a slight difference in the sound but not that meaningful, it's like oil painting vs digital tablet drawing).

I don't get why some consider that if the music is from a .ogg/.wav file (even in the best lossless quality possible) counts less than a CD-ROM.

Crush 40 (Those hacks who made the old Sonic Adventure music) is utter abysmal dogshit. If you like them, odds are they're the only rock "band" you've ever heard.
The main theme of the games, not the entire OST.

While it's buttrock I think that it has a 90's charm. But I prefer Senoue's compositions and the less rocky musics in the soundtracks.

I feel the same over all these schizos who cry like bitches about Ai art while the art they make and shill for is anything but soulful, it's lazy-made as hell and they also use computer to make them. And many of them don't even draw with pencil on paper.
I'll be honest though: AI art, in its current form, looks weird and has that weird "texture" because most people entering prompts are not being informative enough so you have that factory-made model that looks like it was drawn by the same guy over and over again.

I'd rather have someone with a flawed yet original style than a perfect yet watered down one.
