Hey RGT. Good Day! Earlier, my Mom was asking me to find her some Horror Movies cuz' she said she ran out of stuff to watch on Netflix.::winkfelix I figured just me alone searching wouldn't cut it so I thought I'd ask you guys for some recommendations. She said she wants 3 things. Gore, Suspense and Jumpscares.::nervous-prinny I'm not well versed on Horror movies so I can't point em' out. She's the kind who loves shouting at the characters when being chased or if they do stupid stuff.:loldog
Thanks in Advance!

The Ugly is a pretty good psycho-horror that should meet those criteria

its foreign and a bit artsy too so it covers bunches of bases

Dario Argento's films! They have style for days; great occult vibes and plenty of suspense and colorful gore! Personal Recommedations are either Suspiria or Phenomena! Though the whole Mother of Tears trilogy is neat imo!

If she wants something a bit more out there...The Phantasm series!

Nearly any Lucio Fulci film, also Mario Bava
I Know What You Did Last Summer
I Still Know What You Did Last Summer
I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer
Stay Alive: (If you die in the game you die for real.)
Pulse 1 (Internet Ghosts)
House
The Thing
House of Wax (remake)
Scream
The Night Flier
Wrong Turn 1
Pet Sematary 2
Cemetary Man
Halloween H2O
Nightmare on Elm Street (remake)
Return of the living dead
Night of the Creeps
Secret Window
Candyman
What lies beneath
Jennifer's Body
Arachnophobia
The Ring
Silent Hill

The Terrifier series would be my first suggestion.
Also all of the Chucky movies.
Cabin in the Woods is also a really good movie.
Also, Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives (is in my opinion, the best Friday 13th movie)

I could suggest waaaaaay too many Slasher movies as well, since I rather enjoy them. But in general, those lack the suspense and jumpscares that you're looking for, instead just having lots of goofy charm. So I'll spare you those. (Although it could be argued, that that's the only thing I did list anyway... sorry about that.)

Ohhh, wow, I am really surprised. People mentioned here something I wasn't expecting: Italian horror, although my favourites are from 80's and 90's.

I am a big fan of Lamberto Bava (his father is mentioned here, Mario Bava), Lucio Fulci and specially Dario Argento because my favourite movies from italian horror cinema are Demons movies.

Out of italian horror, I would really recommend Killer Clowns from Outer Space, I.T. (only the first one, but need to watch the second one both to get the gist of the story).

Most of the famous and not so famous gore + horror cinema has been mentioned already. I've watched many many movies from 80's and 90's (I started when I was about 10 years old because my uncle wanted to freak me out and I ended loving them, but not after a few nightmares lol).

Yesterday I saw a movie in the cinema: Until Dawn. Do not watch it, it's terrible, but not only because the argument but because of the actors and script.

Ahh, I forgot, I think was not mentioned here, but Final Destination movies are kind of "it is so bad that it's good" movies :).

If you want some more "contemporary", Slither, it was not an amazing movie but it's alright.
Human Centipede 2

I'm sorry in advance
Don't be, this movie is one big butthead movie :D. I love it and everyone liking horror cinema should watch it.
Good Burger
It's hilarious because the puppets are made by the same person of Killer Clowns from Outer Space movie: Stephen Chiodo. He's a master :)

And by the way, the damn protagonist is the one from Kenan & Kel show I watched when I was a kid. Damn it, you opened a little scar in my heart :3

Let's sing it!

This is the best horror film. Not even a joke.
It's so funny they say "the film that inspired Quarantine". I saw REC, because the movie was filmed in my city, it's spanish horror cinema, and I also saw Quarantine and that's an american outrageous copy crap. Not even worth watching (same example as The Ring). Regarding REC, I recommend also the 3rd one, it's hilarious. That's a marriage to remember :D

I'm a big fan of the entire series, even though 3 + 4 move away from the found footage angle.

I always wanted to visit the city cus I hear that the sets have mostly been left alone in the building they used and I wanted to go take a look at it. Not quite the right time for it atm tho haha

Quarantine is a travesty compared with REC.

If you want a horror movie where every character is making the worst decisions possible I highly reccomend Unfriended Dark Web and Wish Upon. Both of them are so baffilingly bad that they turn around to being really entertaining.
Also Malignant slaps. It's an over the top slasher movie, that balances the line between halarity and pretty creepy the whole way through. It also has a great slasher villian.

For actually good horror movies I highly recommend Descent (2005) and The Mist (2007).
I've seen Descent probably 4/5 times and it still makes me physically uncomfortable.
The Mist is a great tense creature feature, where the biggest threat are the humans. Also it has one of the best endings I have seen for any movie, and is worth a watch just for that.
(Also Krampus is a descent, and was made to be an approachable horror movie for teens and adults)

I binged [REC] 1, 2, 3, & 4 last Sunday, great series, never rests on it’s laurels. 1 and 2 seem to have heavily inspired the RE2 remake.

I was in the area a few years back so I took a photo of the front of the building. It just looked like a normal building front and unless you broke in there's no way to get inside it. It's also in quite a touristy area. Rambla de Catalunya, 34, Barcelona.

I still haven't seen 3 or 4 yet - only cos they looked so different to the first 2! And there's no chance of me watching any of the Quarantine films!

I've only got boring regular suggestions for your mom.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The Exorcist
The Thing

Yeah, I sort of had an assumption that this might be the case. At one point, I heard that there was an active dress-making business on the ground floor, so they kept the lobby door open, and you could just walk up the stairs.

I heard they stopped that after a while, probably for good reasons lol. Either way, I won't visit for a fair while. A lot of people have made it clear that tourism isn't helpful in the city right now and if you're not gonna listen to the people who are living in a place before you visit it, then you've got no business travelling in the first place.

I can recommend both 3 and 4, but the style does go completely out the window. It does include some interesting lore additions, though, especially what happens with the priest at the wedding (no spoilers, lmao)

3 happens at the same time as 1/2, but follows new people; 4 is set some time later, but resumes following Angela Vidal in a traditional movie style.

Quarantine 1 is a nearly shot-for-shot remake of REC, but Quarantine 2 starts going off the rails with it being set in an airport. That film was edited so badly. It literally uses jump cuts in the opening for no established narrative reason ::bonzistares

Would've been nice to take a wander round, not sure if I'd have dared check out the final room - don't fancy getting dragged off into the darkness! I'll have to look for my old photos of the place.

(The only thing I'll say about visiting other countries is as long as you treat the place and the people with respect, don't act like a f*cking idiot and try to learn some of the local language then I don't see it as a problem. Mass scale tourism on the other hand is an entirely different matter).

I'll watch 3 + 4 eventually, the trailers and reviews didn't really grab my attention at the time and I've got so many other films ahead of them in the queue. I'm more inclined to watch 4 as it carries on Angela's story. 3 just sounds like a side quest!

28 Days Later

28 Weeks Later (not even remotely as great as the first, but still a good action-horror movie)

Videodrome

Rabid (the original, don't watch the remake it's just not a good movie)

The Thing

Braindead (or Dead/Alive, depending on where you are in the world)

Zombi (or Zombie Flesh Eaters or Zombie 2 or whatever depending on where you live once again)

The Purge (only the original one has any real suspense in it, although The First Purge, The Purge: Anarchy and The Purge: Election Year are really great action horror movies)

Ginger Snaps 1 + 2

Aliens

The Cabin In The Woods

The Domestics (Mad Maxified horror)

X

Halloween 2018

Day of the Dead (the OG, all the remakes suck)

Dawn of the Dead (either version, although my mother did definitely scream "DON'T GO IN THERE THE ZOMBIES GONNA GET YOU OH NOOOO!" a lot more watching the remake. It's not scary but it's definitely a good action horror movie)

Land of the Dead

Quarantine

[REC]

Overlord

I Am A Hero (not as good as the manga but still really good)

I am probably forgetting a ton of movies. I'm tired. Should prolly go to bed.

I don't think there are jumpscares necessarily, but Pan's Labyrinth might make for a good experience.
