Higemaru Makaijima: Nanatsu no Shima Daibouken (J+English Patch) NES

Also known as "Makai Island", its release in the USA was cancelled. The prototype was found and shared online, though. Visit The Cutting Room Floor if you want to see differences between these versions. The japanese rom was translated to english, while the US prototype was translated to portuguese. Translation Credits: Language: English Released By: snark Status: Fully Playable Patch Version: 1.0 Date: 07 June 2007 Source and details: https://www.romhacking.net/translations/1278/

Exactly! The link to the Cutting Room Floor website in the description can lead you to some comparisons between them two.

In this case the prototype is of a port/relocalization of a finished japanese game, so it's not that much of an "inferior" version, but some prototypes really are projects left half of the way.

Damn I didn't see that link, my bad. Initially I wanted to try the absolute original version (the "racist" one) just translated in english I can't read japanese. And I wondered why that version (the original, patched in english) received a lower overall rating score (4.3 stars vs 4.5 for the US prototype), and then I realized the author of the english patched version kind of massacred the intro screen:

That's sad. Fanaticism leading to sacrilege, sort of. He should have left the intro screen untouched and focus on narration/UI text instead. What a waste.

So I guess I'll settle for the US prototype now, and its politically correct modifications.

They didn't do that an horrible job btw, first character looks like an Easter Island/Moai statue after the the political paint job, and second one looks like an orangutan, which is kind of self defeating when it comes to combating "racist stereotypes" when you think about it. It's rare when that sort of job ends up making things look better or even just as good.

The modified intro screen looks rather nice also, reminds me a bit of One Piece, the anime.

What's the difference between "Higemaru Makaijima: Nanatsu no Shima Daibouken (J+English Patch) NES" and "Makai Island (Prototype + Portuguese Patched) NES" ? I mean the obvious translation difference aside, what about the "prototype" part? It means it lacks features/it's not finished?
