It's not just social media, this horrible cycle has continued with the Zelda series like something insane after Ocarina.
Wind Waker comes out, people didn't like it at the time "Not the Zelda we wanted!" and other such criticism.
Twilight Princess comes out, people didn't like it at the time either "Not the Zelda we wanted!", screams the critics, goes back to praising Wind Waker.
Skyward Sword comes out, oh gee golly gosh, people didn't like it either "Not the Zelda we wanted" exclaims the critics, goes back to praising Twilight Princess.
I've never understood that attitude. The original games you DO like are still there. Go play those. I've loved just about every Zelda except the new ones. They just didn't feel like Zelda to me. And no, it wasn't just the open world. I cannot place it. Link did not look like Link but its more than that. Maybe the dungeons? Idk. Still, I did enjoy them for what they were. Honestly the only ones I had zero interest in finishing were the DS Stylus controlled ones. But I never sat there vehemently pissed off about a new game I didn't vibe with like it was a franchise ruining moment such as The Last Jedi or some similar shit.
I acknowledge the "Zelda Cycle" but its completely stupid.
