Pretty rough out there in the comments, like 80% haters, 20% glad of the speed running content.

I'm not surprised, given how invested he was in this. As Leikeylosh said, he fundraised money for something people didn't know the true reason behind. Would imagine a lot of people see him as petty, given how hard he went in on making videos about Billy gossip. I'm glad he's doing more speedrunning stuff, but it's gonna take at least a few months for the heat to die down.Pretty rough out there in the comments, like 80% haters, 20% glad of the speed running content.
As I said before, Karl should've stuck to speedrunning content. At first I was hoping he'd win, but once he got deep into the Apollo Legend aspect and continuing to make like 20 videos reassuring us that yes, Silly Bitchell is in fact an asshole, and yes, I am in fact still suing him. It just got tiring and I stopped watching long before the court date. Idk, you reap what you sow I suppose. The "I lost " video was what I expected : textbook gaslighting lol.
I suspect once he started exposing cheaters he got much more views that with plain speedrunning videos. But he got carried away with Billy. Exposing cheaters is fine I guess every now and then but not getting obsessed with anyone to the point you do 20-some videos on them.
I also don't agree on using thumbnails like this one:

I mean he cheated, does it allow us to put his face up there with that text for everyone to see millions of times? Seems a bit extreme. It's a young lad, we all make mistakes. He didn't kill anyone. To me this is too much, it's borderline harassing.
I see Salt every so often in some small score attack channels I follow (~20 viewers), and he's pretty nice. If he's an ass, he's smart enough to be an ass behind closed doors. Please 2025, don't have Summoning Salt be an actual asshole.
Nah SS is way to amazing and wholesome

I was also pretty shocked when I found out, wort of all is the character assassination by all the people "covering" the subject beating the dead horse is a nice way to put it.As a follower of Karl I wasn't expecting him to lose, but I didn't follow the ins and outs of the case either. Now it's easy to beat a dead horse, and many people are doing just that. I guess that's how people are nowadays. Anyway...
PS: Karl Jobst is a youtuber that exposes cheaters. Billy Mitchell is a retro gaming record holder or so I'm told.
Verdict:
He's really doubled down on the speedrunning police drama. Why not celebrate speedrunning achievements rather than give a spotlight to these frauds? I guess it doesn't get as many clicks. Dude's a hack![]()
Yea, a shit show is always fun, I am a sucker for legal drama >_< I like to learn things. But what a waste of so much money and court resources/time from both sidesBecause drama is fun.
Would you say the new video is worth a watch for a former-ish fan? I saw that the runtime is pretty long, so I figured it was comprehensive. He definitely is guilty of being very clickbait-y with his video titles and thumbnails, but that is unfortunately the norm with most creators these days. It is certainly weird hearing him in the videos "normally" and then hearing his voice in a video where he is on a call with someone. Again, I suppose "YouTube voice" is a pretty common meta, even if it seems unnatural and unnecessary.I was always more inclined to believe that Karl mishandled things rather than being an outright liar about it. I feel the latest video brought some nuance that needed to come up to light, including Karl finally admitting to some of his own shortcomings.
He still seems to be okay taking money from shady sponsors (well, he's kinda gonna need now more than ever), and ridicularizing cheaters to a questionable degree, but I'm always interested in seeing his point of view.
I wish he spoke more naturally in his videos though. I swear, he turns more and more into a robot with each new video.
It's odd how "momentum" works on the internet. From what I understand, Karl was deceptive about what the lawsuit was about, i.e. the defamation related to the Apollo Legend comments. He lost the lawsuit, and also lost in the court of public opinion. I don't blame people being pissed, since being sued for making untrue defamatory remarks is a lot less charitable defense compared to "Billy Mitchell sued me because I said he cheated at Donkey Kong", and surely he would have had less donations if this were known at the time. Still, just because Karl lied about this matter, it doesn't exonerate Billy of his past shady-ness, and he hasn't produced any evidence to counter the claims of spliced footage and whatnot as far as I know. Yet he's riding on a high horse and seems to have gained favor with portions of the internet. Do people really only remember the most recent thing a person has done? If somebody produces a gotcha moment against Silly Bitchell does the public go back to disliking him? Does that then take the heat off of Karl Jobber?
I will say, Jobst being deceptive about this stuff has put me off of his content, I haven't watched anything of his since then. There has also been deception on the part of Mutahar/SomeOrdinaryGamers lying about being an engineer, which definitely puts me off of him. Ironically, these two were instrumental in exposing The Competionist's lies last year when it came to donating charity money he'd helped to raise. Kind of undermines anything they say about others when they themselves exaggerate or hide the truth. I suppose anyone who gets involved in influencer drama will inevitably eat others and be eaten in turn to form the neverending drama ouroboros.
Well the video is overly exhaustive on some details (as you may have guessed by the runtime lmao)Would you say the new video is worth a watch for a former-ish fan? Agreed. That rarely works out, there are usually shades of gray involved. Honestly, the people that present themselves as being ultra-wholesome sometimes turn out to be worse than everyone else. Most people want every situation to have clear-cut good guys and bad guys.
I'll probably download it when I get home and listen to it tomorrow while at work. Long-drawn out stuff like this is usually what I listen to while working unless I'm jamming to tunes.Well the video is overly exhaustive on some details (as you may have guessed by the runtime lmao)
If you're curious for a new perspective on the matter, then yeah the first few minutes are worth a watch, but if at some point you grow bored of the video you can just close it. Only continue if you're that curious on the details or have nothing better to do.
lol, so true. And didn't he criticize Billy in a video for acting/speaking/behaving weird? I imagine Billy would seem more like a normal person irl than Karl. That's not saying much thoughI wish he spoke more naturally in his videos though. I swear, he turns more and more into a robot with each new video.
Yea, but just if you want to actually know what the financial aftermath is. So many youtubers got so much wrong on the financial parts and AUS law, and I will say he does give a clear and concise discussion of that. But yea, you can turn it off after that, it goes on pretty long about topics/points not too interesting. To be fair though, I just had it mostly playing in background...Would you say the new video is worth a watch for a former-ish fan?
I assume Karl acts normal irl, it's just his style of recording that weirds me out a bit. At this point it's clear to me that's he submitted his voice to some AI text-to-speech service, as there's points I'm fairly certain I heard artifacts in it.lol, so true. And didn't he criticize Billy in a video for acting/speaking/behaving weird? I imagine Billy would seem more like a normal person irl than Karl.
