PS4 Have you ever used PS4 as a multimedia center?

Yes, these devices are good for that. I also watch internet TV with my PlayStation 5 Pro.

yeah but i could do more with the PS3. PS3 let me watch videos and listen to music that i downloaded.

I have watched BluRays on my PS4. Worked out pretty well for me overall. Dunno if PS5 can even do that.

youtube works as long as you update it regularly. Otherwise if you try to open YouTube's app on a PS4 without updating your PS4, it'll get stuck in an endless loop without letting you exit until you select to update it.

The PS4 is my Blu-ray player, why go buy another device when it's right there in my face with multiple function? Never used the internet or YouTube on it but my old PS3 did quite the work out of dvds, Netflix, internet surfing, YouTube, and music player when I didn't have a laptop or was running anime on there.

O PS4 é meu aparelho de Blu-ray. Por que comprar outro aparelho quando ele está ali na minha cara, com múltiplas funções? Nunca usei internet nem YouTube nele, mas meu antigo PS3 funcionava muito bem com DVDs, Netflix, navegação na internet, YouTube e tocador de música quando eu não tinha um laptop ou estava assistindo anime nele.

OThe PS4 is my DVD player but I don't have many movies that I like from animation. If I had money I would buy Blu-ray but it's too expensive in my country. If you're underage, you can't do it. I asked my relatives to buy it because my dream is to have that huge collection but it is too expensive

All the PlayStation consoles have been great as a multimedia machine. Even the PS1 got a VCD version in Hong Kong.
A quick note though, PS4 and PS5 cannot play music CDs.

I rememeber those movies i wathced in my ps2 back then, 2 fast 2 furious, american pie 2, oh man those days.. So yeah, i used it also as multimedia center, when i didn't gaming:)

UmA quick curiosity about me: I never had an original DVD, which was very expensive in my country. I bought it at markets and street vendors.

Saturn could play VCDs in Japan. You needed a video card for it though.

I still use my PS2 to watch movies. However it cannot read disc anymore and didn't bother to fix it so I use FMCB + USB stick to watch me movies. What's bothersome about it is converting movies in a way PS2 can play so its resolution, file format, video codec and all should be the right one for PS2 but IMO it worths it. It's charismatic and good vibes about the way of how low VCD quality + yellow subtitle looks so good on CRT TV lolol.

Yes, I do use my PS4 to play DVDs and Blu Rays on it as well. It even upscales the resolution when I play DVDs on it. I also sometimes play DVDs and CDs on my PS2 but not as often. As a kid, I never knew you could play DVDs and CDs on the PS2. Could’ve saved us a lot of money if I found out that before we bought a DVD Player.

I used to create XA audio CD's for playing in my old PS1, as I didn't have any MP3 player at home back then. I also saw a couple of VCD movies on it but the quality was so mediocre that I didn't want to watch more and used my home PC to play divx / xvid converted from DVD, that was so much better :)

Nowadays, I want to watch a movie, I go Stremio (or if the movie is quite rare, Nyaa or other websites with that kind of content).

I like the movie very much? I go to the store and get the Bluray, or buy it online if it is import. As simple as that :)

Using a console for playing videos feels off for me, having a mini computer that can do it without any effort, silent and with so very little power consumption. Consoles nowadays are big monstrosities, they don't fit everywhere and it's kind of uncomfortable to pick it up just for playing a movie, as for me.

Then PS3 internet browser for anime (2010-2014)
Then Wii U internet browser (2014-2017)
Then PS4 browser+USB drive for movies/when anime sites didn't work (2017-2024)
Now I use my Xbox Series S edge browser as my media center :)

Xbox Series S is a really nice piece of hardware. It is still a little big but reasonable. It is powerful to play tons of things and you can run emulators on it. You can use it as a Moonlight client as well. And the best part, it consumes around 70-75W while playing.

As people tend to dislike them in Europe, I believe I will be able to get one for 50-60€ in a couple of years :)

I hope you can get one! I love my Series S and I use it for emulators and the like as you mentioned :D I use it for anime, games, manga, it's just amazing.
