Have you ever met a "celebrity"?

Outside of the usual people at anime conventions, my mother's family was good friends with a local radio station host in her hometown. I remember we went to his house around Christmas and he would have a cool Christmas train display in his basement.

He sadly passed away a week or two ago and he might have not been super well-known, but to know someone that was kind of a local celebrity is still cool.

When I was in second grade I met Stephen Spielberg. I didn't even know who he was at the time. he just happened to be at the same place we were having a school field trip, and the teacher made a big deal about it.

I've heard he's just like a nice, normal dude. Good sense of humor, too.

My mom dated a famous football player from my country way before he hit the big leagues. He actually bought me ice cream once(i was too young to remember much of him), and coincidentally what made he and my mother broke up was that he started focusing almost 100% of his time training so they decided to part ways. It's funny to think what would have happened if he had decided to stay in the relationship and not invested in his career

Bruce Campbell called me a dumbass. ::biggrin

A couple of friends and I got tickets to see My Name is Bruce. He was there and would do a Q&A after the movie, but it was a few hours away. The weather was looking pretty icky but we decided to go anyway, with me as the driver. The icky weather turned into a blizzard and we made it most of the way there with damn near bumper to bumper traffic. Everyone was going super slow, but when I turned a random corner I started sliding into the cars next to me. I managed to force the car off the road and into the guard wires. Scratched the car to hell and the driver side mirror was gone. Managed to get back on the interstate and nothing else happened on the way there.

We arrived, watched the film and Bruce started answering questions. One of my friends got his turn and he was all "We got into an accident getting here!" before asking his question. Bruce was all "Who was the driver?" They both pointed to me. "You, driver, you're a dumbass!" I mean, really, it was kinda true, the smart thing would have been to stay home, but I was young and dumb. And yes, this is the kind of thing that counts as a monumental event in my life.

I Met Leonard Nimoy when i was 12. Really nice guy as i Recollect. me and my Dad went to a Sci-fi convention, and he was one of the Guests

I have an interesting mix of celebs I have met with over the eons:
Huey Lewis' kids went to my elementary school, he was an ass
Raymond Watts gave me a hug in the moshpit because he was jumping up and down on my feet.
Jeff Grubb signed 2 copies of Azure Bonds for me after I spoke to him for about 20min, very nice man.
Jim Butcher actually helped someone I know adopt their son. I got to thank him.
Dragon Dronet comes to my local nerd convention fairly often.

I put it in quotes because it doesn't need to be a global celebrity, just someone famous enough for you. In a gaming context I've taken pictures with Naoki Yoshida and Ikumi Nakamura when they came for an event, and in a more general one (though probably only relevant for fellow brazilians) I once met Silvio Santos in an airport, though he was quickly swarmed and I didn't want to bother an elderly man for a picture. What about you?
You've met Silvio Santos? Lmao that's really funny, surprisingly even though I lived in Rio (tourist city I guess) most of my life I haven't met a big celebrity I can name.

I met Stan Lee at a comic convention where I lived. Got a pic and autograph. Afterwards, I took a smoke break on the balcony of the convention center. I was leaning on the railing while smoking, looking outward when an elderly man took a seat near me and my smoke went in his direction. I could overhear him talking to the guy next to him, saying that he was one of the only guys he trusts. I went to apologize for my smoke going in their direction when I froze when I realized it was Stan Lee taking a break from signing autographs. I tried to tell him I love his work, but the only words that came out were "I love you... man". Other people started noticing him too so he stood up and he went back inside, but waved goodbye before he entered. I felt guilty for cutting his break short though. Dude must've been tired as hell.

Nah I haven't. Whenever I would go to a Comic Con, I'd get cold feet and not go up to them. For example, Christina Vee was at one MCM London event and though I enjoy her voice work, I didn't have the balls to go up and meet her. Maybe someday when my confidence builds up enough to get to that point I will.

Met a lot of them at conventions, so mostly voice actors. David Kaye, Scott McNeil, Alan Oppenheimer, Pat Fraley, Peter Cullen, Greg Berger, Michael Bell, Sue Blu, Venus Terzo, etc.

After meeting Frank Welker at his table, I went to a panel at the con and then went to the bathroom. As I'm washing my hands, Frank Welker came out of the stall and saw my Megatron jacket and said "oh that's cool." as we washed his hands next to me. It's the bathroom so I wasn't going to make it any more awkward, so I simply said, "You can tell I'm a big fan. Have a great day." and walked out.

I have the pleasure of saying that Gary Chalk is a good friend and I hope he gets well soon.

As for bigger name celebrities, I met quite a few when I worked at a theme park in NJ on roller coasters. I've had the pleasure of meeting Ice T, Cam'Ron, Geraldo, Dee Snider, and MacCauly Culkin. Alicia Keys and Britney Spears were not so nice. I managed to squeeze Mick Foley onto the ride since he said he put on a few pounds in the off season.

not sure if this counts as 'meeting' ... but i'll mention it anyways
worked as a busser at a restaurant ... the server told me that there was a customer that wanted *strong* decaf coffee ... and my immature self was like 'wtf is a *strong* decaf coffee supposed to do?' ... she told me to put like 1.5 teaspoons of it to make it strong ... but immature self disagreed that would be strong enough so i put probably like 3.5 ... when i made and served the beverage ... yeah i was like ? 'oh shit! it's william shatner!?' ... the funny thing was i kinda felt bad that i might have over did it ...then he was like 'can you make some more? it's pretty good!' ... i was blown away that he actually wanted more LOL ... still can't get over the fact i didn't even follow instructions but apparently it was all good to the customer ... hah ... kinda makes me wonder if i had followed instructions if his reaction would have been different ... oh well ~ worked out

also montel williams taller in person ... and when he ordered coffee i didn't do my own take of it hahaha ... just normal ~

From Bruce freaking Campbell himself? I would consider that a badge of honor.
Oh don't worry, I totally do. It's a shame phones weren't ubiquitous back then or I could have got it on video...

I ate at the same restaurant of a famous french actor once but didn't talk to him.

I once met Weird Al Yankovic uptown at a bar around last call. He was the full gentleman.

I technically met Stan Lee once at a Comic-Con. I was just walking through the crowd idling when suddenly a bunch of people starting making way and crowding around beside me, I turn around and Stan Lee was coming through the crowd with two assistants, I guess he was going to a panel or whatever. I of course froze as I didn't expect the surprise Stan Lee appearance directly behind me, he walked past me and shook my hand before I even had a chance to really react. Great time.

I also talked a little bit to Neal Addams (legendary comic artist) at a different convention. I was incredibly nervous and he probably thought I was a weirdo, but I managed to get him talking a little bit about Arrow (the TV show). The only thing I had on me to sign was a copy of The Killing Joke, which I asked him to sign; this was I think a poor move, as he just kinda looked at it a little confused. He still signed it of course as he seemed like a really nice guy. Sorry Neal Addams for my awkward social anxiety.

Sort of

I haven't really met many celebrities, so to speak, but I have met some politicians. My grandparents actually used to do photography for one of the yearly gatherings for one in my state, so I got to go with, which might sound boring, but they had a lot of activities for kids because a lot of people brought their families along. It was actually pretty fun. My grandparents had also gotten to do some photography opportunities for Phyllis Diller and Bruce Willis before, which was pretty cool but also happened before I was born.

Where I live there aren't any celebrities, but once during a mountain trip I saw a TV host, more or less famous here.
Not really met, just saw him on a breif distance.

Unfortunately no. Social anxiety makes meeting new people not common for me.
