Have you considered downgrading?

I hate smartphones for pushing everyone into using apps. "Use the app! It's quicker and more convenient!" That has never been the case for me. Every time a doctor or business points me to downloading their app, I lie and say I don't have a smartphone. There's always been another option but I dread the day that I no longer have a choice.

Just last week I needed to see a psychiatrist for medicine tweaks. No doctor in the area so I had to do a video appointment. Zoom says you don't need their app to use it, but there's no other option on their website. Instead you have to click "Download App" to bring up a "Try Again" button, click that button to download the app again, and FINALLY they give you the option to use it in your browser. I had to download an app installer twice just to have the privilege of using my web browser for the call. Nonsense.

I guess its a big problem because I get a new "its really that damn phone" video recommended to me every time I open YouTube. But I feel so out of touch because my current phone is like 10+ years old and 1/3rd of the screen doesn't work so I can't type anything or log into apps. So its pretty much a dumbphone or even worse. But even if I had a good phone I doubt I'd go doomscrolling since I don't use social media all that much anyway ::cirnoshrug On the other note, its fascinating to me how people now searching for ways to decentralize their phones and how ditching social media is considered cool.
I think ditching social media has become cool because it has evolved in something undseriable, like shitposting, unfunny memes, and above all 30 sec brainrot videos that kill our attentionspan. We realize that we are negatively affected by it, so now we wish it gone.
