Have the PS2 emulators finally figured out every idiosincrasy of the console? What's next?

the game runs, but you cannot make the first mission.

but well, there's a code to unlock all missions, so you can simply start in the 2nd mission (it also unlocks the third city, Istambul)

I had never played this one before, downloaded it here and the game is incredible. it is a great evolution from driver 2, which is an incredible game too (better than gta 5).
I’d try the pc version first but I’ll definitely give this method a go it seems intuitive
(better than gta 5).
It wasn’t on my first go but I’m open minded so I might replay it.

On the other hand should I have to follow the "original artistic intent" to be able to enjoy a game? Especially since most didn't expect HD flat screens to exist.

That's probably for another debate.
Absolutely not. Upscale it, mod it, and add textures however you like. I chose authenticity to original hardware as a point of comparison to using real hardware and because enthusiasts circles such as this forum tend to have a lot of people that care about that.

Funnily enough the first ever PS2 game, Ridge Racer 5, still has visual bugs on the hardware renderers. Software renderer looks proper though.

PCSX2 has come a long way for sure. There's still issues with some games but the fact you can play a vast array of the library is astounding to me.

A few years ago I read that the PS2 had some peculiar ways of representing certain effects like transparencies, fog, and something else I can't remember off the top of my head (sorry!), and that emulators couldn't replicate it 1:1 yet. Lately I've been wondering if that's still the case, figured this might be a good place to ask that question
Yesn't.

You have to manually configure each game until it works, but it can work most of the time.

Please don't remind me my ps2 it died few days ago

My friend I still sad

Since when did you have them? Since he came out?

It can well slow down depending on your hardware and what game you're emulating.
Sure. But I don't mind inaccuracies if the game plays well.

Unless some want an emulator to replicate the flaws of said console.

My big question is how's the input lag, it's still the only way to play dmc1 and 3 with all of the visuals intact; mods dont completly fix the hd collection

never had any problems with input lag while playing with a DS4 controller, unless you're really particular about it?

Since the pandemic I must have completed around 20 games on PCSX2 and noticeable bugs were quite rare. Obviously it's not perfect and with a library that big it probably will never be, but it's still an impressive piece of software

Activating optimal frame pacing will help a bit.

Some consoles, hardly anyone can (or wants to) emulate remotely accurate to the original hardware. Modern displays are incapable of simulating outlandish tech like a Virtual Boy or Vectrex.

Then there's N64 with its signature blur, the distinctly subpar composite video of the Megadrive/Genesis and Neo Geo...

Absolutely, same with a more modern example with the 3DS' 3D.

For the Genesis I remember how dithering was used to show pseudo transparencies in some areas (one famous example is the waterfall in Sonic 1, another is the light in the bar in SoR 2).

This is probably also why checkerboard patterns for transparencies were used on the Saturn.

Musashi Samurai Legend had visual glitches that made it unplayable
Was it ever fixed?

They have achieved 99% compatibility recently, but some games give them issues because they required online or used the CPU in certain ways. Marvel Nemesis for example can't be emulated well because the 3 CPUs worked in synch, one cycle late and the game completely falls apart.
