Have a separate section for Generative AI discussion

It's a very polarising subject right now with strong opinions in both sides. Many threads about it here often devolve into arguing rather than a civil discussion. I think it's unhealthy for the site to have threads like this in the general section, breeding such negativity in the most populated area of the forum will only allow it to grow.

On the other hand Gen AI is still very much apart of the discussion when it comes to modern media, so we can't entirely ignore it. I prepose we have a new section dedicated to it. This way we can keep it out of general discussion but the people who still wish to discuss it can.

If you have a better idea by all means share it, but I feel something should be changed.

Relax, I meant nothing by it, sorry if it came off like that. You did it in the earlier AI thread too that got locked and I thought it came off as teacher's pet-ish so it annoyed me.

Ai tools are less theft than outright pirating something. Because using a dataset as a reference is not the same as straight up stealing

My goodness, this really devolved while I was offline. My stance still stands; We need to make a space for people to post and discuss Gen Ai. Keep it separate. People that disagree with its use can ignore that section of the forum, no one needs to argue and insult each other, and peace can [temporarily] return. Users can ignore each other[there's a handy little button for that], and we can all move on.

At least until the next bullshittery begins.

Ignore doesn't work most of the time, cause you can click on "Show Ignored Users" & see who's talking.

My question, since this thread is still going, is if we dump the AI bros and AI discussion into their own subforum, what happens to machine translated roms? Would users have to go there to discuss them?

machine translation has been around a lot longer than generative AI. Even if you ask an AI to translate something it's still using the old machine model to do so, more or less. For that reason I wouldn't group them together, though patches that use machine translation have always been frowned upon even before all this AI nonsense.
