Have a separate section for Generative AI discussion

It's a very polarising subject right now with strong opinions in both sides. Many threads about it here often devolve into arguing rather than a civil discussion. I think it's unhealthy for the site to have threads like this in the general section, breeding such negativity in the most populated area of the forum will only allow it to grow.

On the other hand Gen AI is still very much apart of the discussion when it comes to modern media, so we can't entirely ignore it. I prepose we have a new section dedicated to it. This way we can keep it out of general discussion but the people who still wish to discuss it can.

If you have a better idea by all means share it, but I feel something should be changed.

Trying to get along in a gaming forum is hard, but manageable.

Yeah you're right. Ai tools are less theft than outright pirating something. Because using a dataset as a reference is not the same as straight up stealing.

I agree with you, but I don't think they were saying that, though? It's about the subject itself as a discussion topic, not the usage of the art itself.

He did talk about a outright ban of Ai which includes generative Ai, which would lead to one conclusion for users who still would use Ai.

I'd say a blanket ban in the same way religion or politics or other "sensitive topics" would be best, but I know that's a pretty big decision with several factors.
I personally don't care about AI art showing up from time to time (that doesn't mean I like it though, I just ignore it), but the discussion threads almost without fail end up in flames for the smallest thing, often people going at each other's throats for assumptions made related to their views on the topic at hand.

Literally two posts up from the one you replied to, Doomer. Seems kinda hard to misinterpret, but you've pulled your magic off again.

The handful of AI posters here tend to play the "Oh, I guess you just hate progress, you luddite!" card, disregarding any legitimate concerns whenever any criticism of Gen AI get's mentioned, and I feel that this attitude lends to AI threads breaking down. (Hell, it's happening in this very thread)

Honestly, while I don't think AI talk needs to be outright banned, it definitely needs to be more closely moderated then most subjects here.

You just wouldn’t be allowed to flood the site with them, or make threads about it (just like how people can’t make politically or religiously motivated threads, it doesn’t belong in such a blunt context). Just like how religious people or people interested in politics are able to use the site, they just can’t parade that shit around the site, because this isn’t the place for it. I’m for a blanket ban on the SUBJECT, not for banning you for making AI images somewhere else, because that’s totally unrelated.

Not to mention how people make AI art and claim it as their own. At least when you pirate a game, you're not stealing the credit of creating it from the team who did.

If you post political stuff or engage in politics you would be warned and if you continue be send to reader mode and back then even be banned outright,so enacting a ban on all AI and AI images on this site would have the same result as people could not post AI Images anymore without risking getting send into the reader mode.
And you really should start using your brain of course I don't use RGT to generate AI images what stupid take is that but I still would get censored if a ban was intact if I where to post them here which still would be censoring it regardless.

You are allowed to get heated about topics that clearly mean something to y'all (and I'd rather have you pissed off than completely disengaged).

But this is straying into downright rule-breaking territory, and more than one count of it.

A thread suggesting a separate section for AI talks because they keep getting out of hand got out of hand.

With what little authority I have I can say with certainty that nobody's getting banned for posting AI-generated images here. Same goes for discussing AI as a whole. Being a massive twat, however, will do you no favors. Rules #1 and #2 are pretty clear I believe.
