It's a very polarising subject right now with strong opinions in both sides. Many threads about it here often devolve into arguing rather than a civil discussion. I think it's unhealthy for the site to have threads like this in the general section, breeding such negativity in the most populated area of the forum will only allow it to grow.

On the other hand Gen AI is still very much apart of the discussion when it comes to modern media, so we can't entirely ignore it. I prepose we have a new section dedicated to it. This way we can keep it out of general discussion but the people who still wish to discuss it can.

If you have a better idea by all means share it, but I feel something should be changed.

Does it come up often enough to justify that? I've seen two threads, but I will admit I'm not paying attention to it or seeking it out

tbh not super often but when they do pop up they usually ended up being problematic for one reason or another and end up locked or deleted. Not like AI is going anywhere so it will most likely continue to happen.

if it's too much of a hot-button issue, maybe it should be in the same space as religion and politics here.

often times when it comes up it's related to modern gaming news, so I think it would be difficult to completely ban it. I wish it was that simple, but I don't think it is.

seems like a mess. plus if it had its own section, that won't necessarily mean someone will go look for it there before starting their own thread in the general gaming area. maybe we need an AI user (like a user powered by AI, not a person who uses AI) to show us how to navigate this ::cirnoshrug

The AI containment board... 1751228080777481.gif

I don't think a whole new section is necessary, but I do agree that it's a way-too-hot topic that needs some sort of containment -- every new thread made on the forum is also shown on CDR itself and is, thus, likely to attract zero-posters with nothing to lose joining on the fray the way it is now.

AI Can be well hotly debated good would be for people who like Ai to engage with it and people who don't ignore it as attacking people over here will lead to nothing but resentment and probably the opposite effect that was intended.

You may be be right, I just wanted to present a possible solution. I guess I'll leave it to you guys to figure out what to do about it.

I'd say a blanket ban in the same way religion or politics or other "sensitive topics" would be best, but I know that's a pretty big decision with several factors.
I personally don't care about AI art showing up from time to time (that doesn't mean I like it though, I just ignore it), but the discussion threads almost without fail end up in flames for the smallest thing, often people going at each other's throats for assumptions made related to their views on the topic at hand.

If it did go through, what part of AI would they ban?

As I said, I'd happily be in favor of a blanket ban, which would mean all.
And this is of course specifically Generative AI we're talking about, which is the whole hot-button issue.

Everyone should know nobody's talking about AI in the sense of "The enemy AI in Halo is really smart!" in these discussions. I say "should".

Welp, I guess I better find a non-AI profile pic then. ::winkfelix

Nah you do you.
Ai hate has become ridiculous what next should we return to being Caveman since Tech and progress bad.
Why give way to haters.

I strongly disagree with that nobody is forced to like use or interact with Ai so let people who want to use it use it.
Banning users for using Ai art just feels discrimatory and highly over the Top.
What next are we gonna agree on banning people for liking modern games which also can be hotly debated or people for prefering certaing gaming systems ?.

I agree, but with that said, I'd also say this community is pretty respectful and level headed. The AI threads are really the only time I see people at each other's throats; even on the hot takes threads, people are respectful about differences of opinion. To keep things on a civil note, I think it's best to just not let discussions that can lead to flame wars ever start in the first place.

Keeping it separated is best. People can just ignore the entire section it's in, and we can monitor and manage posts, preventing people from flooding the boards with it.

Outright outlawing it won't be effective, and not having any regulation will end with us having it everywhere. Creating a specific space will keep it contained.

I find it extremely ironic that people who frequent a piracy website often enough to join its forums are complaining about a tool that creates things based on other people's stuff.

Simplifying stuff to handwave the negative aspects of a thing is fun
