Is it noticeable and do you think it puts a tax on your Vita?

I'd like to try this on a Vita I never use (only because there's a paltry 128GB micro SD card in it), and I'd like to play Jak & Daxter on my Vita without the horrible framerate.

Additionally, is there a preferred method for this? I only ask because there are a multitude of videos about this on YouTube, so if you've OC'd your Vita and you can testify to a solid method or video of it, I'd be grateful if you could chime in on this.

Thank you!::lurking

Not that I'm aware of, but cooling mods aren't needed anyway. From what I recall, the vita was built to withstand the load that comes with overclocking, it's just not clocked at that rate by default because it murders the battery life.

Yes, 4 yrs ago, I use the overclock on psvita 1000, 2000 and playstation tv.
It works on all games, faster, smoother and responsiver Uncharted is bettee playable instead choppy.
Its a must if you modded it already, no cooling needed on psvita, but on pstv its easy to put heatsinks on chips.

Does it count if I say I have "overclock" on my Vita TV? because like the Switch, they need to be "overclocked" to fix the performance issues in most games, for me it is mandatory, otherwise I can't really play with them.

But as commented here, I also never had any issue, the Vita TV does not get very hot at all. I saw a video overclocking it past 500Mhz to get almost 100% speed on snes and gba emulators if I recall correctly, but I think it's not worth it.

I wish Sony would release a PSTV version of a future portable, if ever they release one again :)

Is it noticeable
It adds 3-11 fps (below the cap) to pretty much every game.

It drains battery 8% faster when used. Which is nothing.
I use it all the time on everyhing. Even homescreen.

Yes, PSVshell plugin. You can download it directly from inside VitaDeploy.
Just put every value to max. Overclock config is saved separately for each game.

Additionally if you don't need a performance boost, you can use it to underclock your console, to save battery.
You can also use underclock to slow the game down, to get a better view on girls' ass when playing DoA games.

battery life will likely suffer, especially on more used battery. I myself underclock/"over"clock depending on game, there is few parameters that you can clock up, CPU's 500 cap aside also GPU to 222 and xbar which I am not entirely sure what it is... Unified memory bus speed? On retroarch depending on core I clock stuff down to lesser numbers.

Quirk I had with my vita and one should keep an eye out for seems to be that some stuff does not automatically set right clocks. If I play Gravity rush on my vita, I have to manually set few clocks higher to attain the 30fps solid the game is meant to run at, otherwise, without overclocking plugins to do it with, GravRush would run at slowed down pace 24fps a lot. Very weird as from videos it is clear the game should be likely setting a higher clock for the system itself kinda like PSP does game by game basis. I had some others that feel like they are not clocking GPU or Xbar up to number the games would like to have. I have one weird used OLED model.

Plugin I would recommend is PSVShellPlus as it is tad more modern than PSVShell, integrates to the quick menu and is just nicer to use for it's improvements.

Depends on the game tbh. Someone posted it earlier but stuff like Jak and Daxter HD benefits from overclocking. I usually keep my Vita on the default preset most of the time

I gotchu bro

Great video demonstrating the practicality of overclocking. And that's exactly the game I wanna play!!!

I remember when I first got my first Vita, not sure how much time had passed, but Jak & Daxter came out. I bought it, went home, played it - and then - to my horror, I immediately took the biggest shit of my life. I was so exhausted I had to return the game the next day. I bitched and moaned and then I finally got my money back. Gotta stick to reviews!!!

Thanks for the PSVShellPlus, I'll look into that!

Probably no because I don't have one. But I really want to buy one and mod it beyond recognition.

Dude, by all means get a PS Vita, then hack the crap out of it! You'll love it, trust me. ::peacemario
