Translation Credits: Released by: Jenbrother Language: English (If you wanna call it that) Status: Complete but so bad it's unplayable Patch Version: v1.04 Date: 12 Feb 2020 Source and details: WayBack Machine Archive of Original Page Another great game brought to you by GIGA (developer of Variable Geo) sadly ruined by a laughably bad translation. I don't mean to be dismissive or a jerk, but I can see why they took the page down if this was the result. Seriously, it's that bad. I've included the original Japanese copy as an alternative and with the hope that one day someone skilled […]

I tip my hat to the people who is translating PC-98 games and opening a new library of games to the rest of the degenera... I mean the world, the rest of the world

I think I have a new favorite system library to go through.

Makes me jealous of people who understand Japanese. The PC-98 has an insanely good library of multiple genres. It's strong with visual novels and rpgs with good cg scenes since it does beautiful pixel art so well. Unfortunately the vast majority of its library is lost to people like me who can't read Japanese. There's almost 120 PC-98 games that have been translated and the list grows almost every month. Just the other day the denpa horror (sub genre of psychological horror featuring characters who have gone mad) visual novel Shizuku got a translation. It's by Leaf and is considered a historical title for the denpa genre. I may post it sooner or later.
Edit: who's the 4th character in your gif? I recognize Popful Mail, Asha, and Shantae but not that one

Bad in that the translator barely even knew English themselves. A machine translation would have been several times better than this translation. It's such an insane disservice to the script of the game that I would have been ashamed to have released it if I were them. They took any possible enjoyment that could have been had from this because of that. I know I sound harsh saying this, but honestly, they shouldn't have even attempted this translation
That . So . Insult . To . Me. i . Make . Effort . With . Translate . What . Make . You . Besides . Ofensive . Coment . In . The . Internet?

I saw that as well, and tried to download it, to no avail. I was thinking of spending time digging around for it, but honestly, I'd much rather just invest my time into learning Japanese than digging up a shitty translation patch that fixes braindead mistakes that makes one wonder what state of mind Jenbrothers was in when making this abomination.

Then again, that smoothbrain put black text on top of a dark image, so anything is possible now lmao

Oh, believe me, that line of text is actual poetry in motion compared to some of the abhorrently butchered "translations" I've come across in my heyday meandering about on the internet. Still hilarious and amazing haha! Don't make me pull up some images an English Patch for Aku no Onna Kanbu Full Moon Night that makes you want to open up a hex editor to see how they fucked up so bad.
Even official translations were, and are, I guess, bad; apparently (can't tell, since I don't play nukiges), the Taimanin Asagi games featured really horrible translations, with bad grammar and misspelled words all over.

THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME
or at least it was until someone decided to anglify it

NISAmerica, Crapcom, and Squeenix
NISA? really now
it's been years since i last played any NIS game in english cos i had enough of dumb localisers shoving their shit agenda and "cultures" down our throats in general, but from memory, i don't think they really did a bad job, did they? can you name recent works (that are by NIS since i only play the NIS-made not NISA-published)

skwecks, for sure, can't do anything right
i've been a skwecks hater since the merge 🖕👊
i just found out last year that in DQ11, Kamyu's name in English is ERIK
????????
shouldn't it have been Camus?? you know, like Albert Camus, the french philosopher
well anyway this ain't the place to discuss their shitteries but yeah, just got curious when you mentioned NISA

Wow I found a 1.05 version that fixes how they used . in place of space between words. (Which was braindead stupid if you ask me) Also character name fixes. I'm sure this translation is still god awful in that update but it'd be nice to get rid of the unnecessary periods. So that it doesn't read like "Our. ancestor. live. in. peace. with. other" that was the second line in the game lol.
Edit: damn the download link to the patch doesn't exist anymore

If anybody who's a good internet sleuth can track down that v1.05 patch that existed here before being taken down then I'd replace the one in the post with it. I'm not having any luck finding it tho

Well, blondie juice makes me forget the bad translation even the lore, :)_... But fixing it seems to be a job for Nelson2001, ou yeah! xd/<3

I have no qualms about calling out bullshit translations when I see it. I've been doing it for decades, and is the reason why I literally no respect for NISAmerica, Crapcom, and Squeenix (three of the biggest offenders of completely changing scripts instead of doing their god damn jobs and just translating the games).

Shaming people's works when it is warrent is one of the most effective ways to get them to stop doing dumb shit.

@Neurolimal I'll have to check the game, but I suspect it's probably translated by a non-native English speaker who is neither proficient in English nor Japanese, and butchered the script so bad that it's literally incomprehensible. At least, that's how it sounds like when reading everything on the archive link.

There are a LOT of games that are done like this, sadly. And unfortunately, the worst offenders are usually people putting in low (read: no) effort into translating H games. Most of these "translators" just assume that people are going to skip the text to get to "the good stuff." Which is a braindead take because if that were they case, they'd just play the native language game lmao

Also, side note: It's amazing how the website is, somehow, even worse than some of the more horrible late 1990s era angelfire or geocities websites. Who in the hell would put black text on top of a background that has a lot of black in it?!

Is the translation bad as in 'it reads like a machine/LLM translation', or 'bad' as in 'they took a lot of liberties with the script'? Genuine question.
