HAPPY 30TH BIRTHDAY VIRTUAL BOY!
Virtual Boy.jpg

Can you believe that Nintendo's biggest failure is hitting the big THREE-O today? I can, because THAT'S HOW TIME WORKS YA FOO'!

Anyway, it's been 3 decades since Nintendo released this thing, has opinion on it changed given 30 years of hindsight and do you like any of its games?

For a failure , it has really awesome and underrated japanese games that are very unknown to this day .

The Cthulhu-dungeoncrawler-shooter was one that comes to my mind in an instant . And we didnt saw all japanese games on this eye-cancer-device.

Sometimes its a look worth to give while playing Devils advocate here.

No risk , No fun as people say . ::smirk1

a friend of mine has one of these. no idea if he ever even turned it on and played it, but i got to look at it sitting on his shelf.
also, from watching avgn, i learned that there was a movie called waterworld, which is considered one of the biggest flops in movie history. the only game ever made for it was for the virtual boy.
i wonder if one of these things unintentionally doomed the other one or if that was just a crazy coincidence.

The ironic thing is that it wasn't even a Nintendo thing -- some other company had come up with the idea and then offered it to both SEGA (which declined... and that should tell you something) and Nintendo for further development, kinda like the Power Glove (another misunderstood failure bearing the Big N's name).

It was a VERY interesting thing, but perhaps too ahead of its time for its own good.

I remember back in 95, I walked into a grocery store and saw a demo of this thing. Nobody was even looking at it. I checked it out and it was terrible. Of course, I was 12 and thought 3DO was the coolest thing ever. Regardless, I had a headache for a while afterwards.

I played it at Kay-Bee Toys on display and I beg my parents to get it for Christmas because of Wario Land, Mario's Tennis and Mario Clash. But my parents said no because of the headaches, seizures and eye pains I would get and instead, got Yoshi's Island which is a better choice. Thank goodness for emulators because I can play VB Wario Land all the time now without getting seizures and headaches.

And to think that the second worst in the history of the Big N is the WiiU.... I feel so bad for that console man, it didn't deserve the hate and reputation that it gotten.

This is the 3d Nintendo thing I had...for the Famicom eight years before the Virtual Boy.

I only had 3 games that worked with it, Highway Star/Rad Racer, Famicom Grand Prix 2 and Falsion.

Do emulators for this effectively merge the two images and/or allow you to play the software in grayscale?

Mednafen supports it, I think that's the only emulator I've used with it. It definitely just shows the left and right image next to each other, and I think it only displays in black and red, although maybe there's a grayscale setting somewhere I didn't notice.
