I've noticed that often that was Sony (well, most specifically PS2 era) fans that always bring how the PS2 destroyed the Dreamcast or something like that even outside of that context.
I remember that era very well... and EVERYTHING what happened during 2000-2002, was... "quite EFFING strange".
And had STRONG "reverberations" the next 5 years in the videogame industry. And I mean, BIG ONES. Wii would broke those dynamics in 2006, unexpectedly.
I agree, from PS3 and successive gens, they are different, but those 2 first PS gens are full of very very very strange fanboy people. They seem pure "adoctrinated" people.

God I hate this game. This was Sega’s attempt at copying Ratchet and Clank and Jak and Daxter (Yes, Iizuka said in a interview that the gameplay was inspired by R&C and J&D). Except that they forgot to make a good game when ripping those two franchises off. Worst attempt at trying to make a game “dark and edgy”. Others may think 06 started the downfall, however I think this game did. Also this game didn’t need to happen at all. Only exists just because fans begged Sega to have Shadow have his own game. Doesn’t even have an overall impact on the series timeline. Also Shadow is such an overrated character, he’s also poorly written, especially in this game. I feel like the whole "Sanic is ded" shit wore out its welcome after SA2, ive personally been dealing with it for over half my life. Like sonic is doing really well, the new sonic racing game is excellent and lost worlds was great.

Look at the movies, and the box office they are doing... and then tell us that franchise is dead.

Yes, Mario movie was much bigger... OK. But not many here remember the ORIGINAL Mario movie of the 1993, with Bob Hoskins and Dennis Hopper (a very famous actors by then)... It was a COLOSSAL FAILURE: And no need to tell you... Mario was already an established icon by then. Already in 1993, it was probably bigger than Mickey Mouse, at least for the most young.
You can blame the Hollywood producers, the directors, the actors, the screenplay... but it was really Nintendo who let them do that fuckery, which was very very promoted in the media... until it was clear it was like beating a dead horse: "that" was not working in the theaters.
I remember talking with friends, still as a kid, about how BAD that Mario Bros. movie was XDD. And Mario never stopped to be popular, but the movie was a huge nonsense which did not good to Mario franchise. Fortunately, kids did not care that much by then if some product sucked from time to time.
(remembering "the Shadow game", in its 20 anniversary, to affirm Sonic franchise was killed then... it just continues to be hilarious to me XDDD)
Street Fighter movie, as well as Mortal Kombat movie, demonstrated a movie about videogames could work in theaters, just after that Mario failure. And later, Final Fantasy movie (2000), demonstrated Sakaguchi... was an idiot XD (that... movie was ultra expensive... and incredibly absurd and NOT related at all with ANY Final Fantasy topic/World/idea. AT ALL. One of the most EXPECTED movies ever. What they did with that movie, was FUCKING LAME and SUPER IDIOTIC, and Sakaguchi himself was SUPPOSEDLY, the director, producer and the creator of the story, SO, NO EXCUSES HERE. Almost bankrupted Square, which had to beg for a fusion with Enix. It literally changed the story of the company XD)
