Hi, I know it's a silly question, but can anyone recommend any good hack and slash games for PS2? I have these games, for example, and I've played all of DMC, GOW, Ghost Rider, Shinobi/Nightshade.

Bloodrayne and Evil Dead Fistfull of Boomstick were my fav, also Curse of Darkness, Maximo and Chaos Legión but that last one is a bit weird and slow.

I don't see Bayonetta mentioned anywhere so I guess I'll recommend that. Another, perhaps unexpected recommendation would be the mid-00s Prince of Persia Trilogy. Sands of Time, Warrior Within and Two Thrones. On the goofier side of things - Rising Zan The Samurai Gunman is alright but keep in mind it was made before DMC showed everyone how this genre is supposed to be done so it has its fair share of jank.

The intro alone is worth giving it a go though:

To clarify about maximo, army of zin is the one with more focus in the hack and slash, ghosts to glory is more a 3d platforme. Both recommended anyway. Sad that we may never see maximo reunited with the princess.

Btw, just to clarify. The OP said PS2 only

Anyway, other than what's already mentioned. Maybe Drakengard series or Nanobreaker

Sengoku Basara 3
released as Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes in the states.
Just watched a Steph Sterling vid about it and gave it a shot. If you like Omega Force-style joints, you'll love this.

Looks cool, but they're talking specifically about PS2 games, which the first and second games happen to be on so there you go

Since it got an English patch recently, I can recommend Like a Dragon: Ishin on the PS3. I hear Oni and Way of the Samurai are pretty solid too.

Probably couldn't consider it a hack n slash, but I definitely recommend Dirge of Cerberus. It's a 3rd person shooter, but it has that charming edge to it that could only have come from an early PS2 game. It plays like a more vain hack n slash, except with guns of course, but i'm talking more of like the depth of combat. Check it out, even more if you're a fan of Final Fantasy since it's set in 7's story!

I don't know about being good, but there are several budget beat'em up/hack and slash Simple 2000 titles for Japanese PS2 that received PAL ports as well. They're worth a play or two. Raging blades, Zombie Hunters, and Dragons Sisters are a few that I remember.
