When I was a kid I watched Gundam Wing and thought it was the coolest shit ever. I have no idea why I never watched any other Gundam show after, but life is short and I want to watch it all. Luckily I found this:

Damnnn that's a lot of Gundam. But I can do it. I know some good pirate sites.

If you like this series, comment below about your experiences with it.

Mobile Suit Gundam and Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam have been shortened to 3 movies each and are kinda the definitive way of watching em. so that makes it alot easier to get through. The Zeta Gundam movies are especily good tho the additional animation being some of the best the franchise has to offer can be a bit jarring next to the original animation.

I never watched Wing as a kid and only watched it now as an adult after watching a few other Gundam shows. I found it boring tbh. I think the middle part of Wing was kinda dull and had messy pacing. As for the other shows, the 1979 Gundam show was the one that surprised me the most cuz it's the first one I decided to watch last year and I was amazed at how the storytelling still holds up.

Still going through the whole franchise at the moment, and so far G Gundam is still at the top for me.

Gundam is a unique series to say the least, it has done a lot of great stuff at the very least. I seen the majority of the works at this point and I do highly recommend it as a whole, just know it'll be a long journey. I do think you could start up with any AU if you want just a one entry journey but if you want to get in the deep journey that is UC Gundam then I'd recommend the original Mobile Suit Gundam and go from there with Zeta (series), ZZ and CCA. For the record tho the original Gundam movies are good alternatives for the original series if you aren't big on it and the such but just know both Zeta series and A New Translation differ in some aspects but I'd recommend watching both. Anything after CCA you could go wherever for Gundam from Late UC to the AUs or SD if you want. It's a great time so I hope you'll enjoy Gundam.

This is always the hardest part of recommending the UC Gundam shows. Most people just don't wanna watch crappy animation from '79 and I don't really blame them.

Gundam is one of those franchises that scratch a very nerdy itch we have. You like it because of the cool robots or because of the solid political-military drama most of the series have. I, myself, am on the second category.

Wing is know to be messy and convoluted. It amazes me how Wing was the one responsable to popularize Gundam on the US.

79's animation is THAT bad. The movies did a great job correcting animation mistakes and streamlining the story. I can easily recommend the movie trilogy even for modern viewers

The only other show I found more boring is the SEED series tbh. Not really cuz nothing happens, but cuz a lot of it is pretty much just a UC retread.

I think Gundam is the series I've been the most invested into and still finding new ways of appreciating and learning things in about every series. I think each Gundam series and timeline is good up to around 2015 ending with Reconguista in G, which I feel is the last truly special series that only Freaks like me appreciate, but was divisive though found a following.

Each Entry has it's own unique strengths and weaknesses, in a way I think isn't something that's approachable like any other series. Because I think it's the most popular and important anime series that internationally I don't think anyone has really "got", I guess that's the territory of when you're a series that changed Japan and has been spanning for almost 50 years, that a lot of things are lost in people, Imagine if Star Trek was only popular in the states and the rest of the world had to play catch up.

Anyways, I think the best/favorite entries really depend and change but for me the ones I think of are like 00, X, Victory and Zeta in terms of shows. For movies, It's Char's Counterattack, Awakening of the Trail Blazer, and Seed Freedom. For OVAs, you can't go wrong with any of the UC ones from 0080 to Igloo, because they are that fucking good, Though I do lean towards 08th Ms Team pretty often. I do think there is plenty of good to be within each of the shows up to a point, Even Shows like Age and Destiny which people consider "Terrible", I think are have their flaws but still have plenty of positives that do shine. But the best ones, I think are some of the best anime I've seen in either TV or Movie form and ones I do think about often.

if people don't watch 79 Gundam because of the animation, they will not watch 70s and early 80s mecha in general

Start with Mobile Suit Gundam, Mobile Suit Gundam: Soldiers of Sorrow, and Mobile Suit Gundam: Encounters in Space. Those are the 3 movies that should catch you up on the series that started it all

EUI don't know if it counts, but I watched a giant robot anime called Voltron on Netflix and I liked it so much that it's a shame Netflix was canceled.

G Gundam was the absolute tits to me growing up and still kind of is.
I did get very heavily into 0079 and Zeta as I got older, though I haven't seen either of them in years. Also, I loved SD Gundam Force and do not for the life of me understand the hate it got (Even have a little figure of Zero, The Winged Knight)

A ton of timelines and series it's overwhelming.

But I liked Stardust Memory.

Anybody who recommends watching the movies instead of the original '79 anime is a coward.

The movies are a pretty good summary (especially when this is a full trilogy so there's still material to show) while improving some of the wonkier visuals.

I could agree that some characterization get scrapped off but that's the same for many book to movie transition.

Also I could be fine having people not being interested in the more filler-y, lesser animated episodes

That's probably why I also prefer OVAs for animes since they're usually higher quality for less episodes (so it doesn't drag too long) and movies that work as standalones.

I watched a good hunk of the English Dub of 0079 by Ocean and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Wasn't too keen on Amuro being a bit of obnoxious brat with the fate of Side Seven in his hands, but he is a teen after all

I watched SEED with some friends on Discord. It's "so corny its good" type of show.

It was fun but Kira having zero personality really got on my nerves

Honestly, the corniness is the only thing that kept me watching the show, but I was just annoyed that I'm basically just watching a story I already watched.

So if you're not a newtype... are you "Gundamned"?

(I'll be out of her).

I got interested because of gunpla and went straight to 00 not that long ago (I never watched any anime before as well).
Now I'm grinding the UC and completed GWitch, GQux and 00, I'm truly fascinated now and I want to search for more mecha anime.

Needless to say, gunpla has also become my next addiction, it strikes that specific area of my brain that really liked lego building, but much better in every aspect.

I've had maybe two kits in my life, both of them being from the SD line (love me some tiny, chibi robos). And it is kind of therapeutic comfort in a way, but definitely not for somebody with the attention span of a housefly like I usually am :P

Gundamned does have a nice ring to it. I mean they are, essentially, the bastard by-product of space exploration.
I've always wondered what caused "Newtypes" to exist: are they humans who mutated because of cosmic ray exposure? Are they a natural evolution of homo sapiens in a <1G environment? Are they people with psychic abilities a la Akira?

I don't mind newtypes being an hypothetical way of how humans may become when we'll finally go to space but I always felt like Gundam was biased so that we barely see normal humans still being prolific with a mobile suit... you'll have to be gifted to be able to properly navigate in space.
