One of the biggest banks in the world, Bank of America, said in a new investor note that it believes Take-Two should price GTA 6 at $80 to help drive prices higher across the industry.

"We think it's in Take-Two's self-interest, as a publisher and partner to many developers, to raise the price point for the entire industry."

While GTA could get away with it, the vast majority of games won't be able to. I often see Mario Kart World used as an example that $80 games can work, and they may be right for a game like Mario Kart, however most Switch 2 owners paid $50 for Mario Kart World.

Of course a bank wants people to pay more for games.
I don't doubt that Rockstar wants to sell GTA 6 at a higher price but what's sad is the amount of people who would pay any price for it when it comes out.
I'm not really into GTA but I don't want games releasing at these crazy prices.

Back then many where thinking that GTA 6 can cost $100 with how everything is expensive now days

At least GTA is a big ass game with tons of hours to waste. But like i said before, not many are those that will be worth it to even cost 70/80

Even worse if those game can be finished in less than 10 hours with no need to replay it at all

Imagine wasting 100 punches in the wallet for a game that you can beat in one or two hours and never see it again

Better use the money in something that last longer

I'm surprised there are fans still waiting for GTA6 to be honest I feel this game troll ay this point because of delay is there really GTA6 in the making

And don't forget this not same rockstar who make GTA 3 to GTA 5

(This my opinion by the way)

You are not wrong. What you're saying is technically a fact.

Hey Bank of America, how about y'all pay that shit for everyone else? See how you feel afterward.

Cheaper and shorter games with high replay value. That's all I need.

I bought Terraria in 2012 for £6.99, full price. I've got 3031 hours played on Steam, the last time I played it was April 2nd. That's how you fuckin' do it.

Of course that's an extreme example, but the point stands. I've played Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 to competition multiple times on multiple systems. I've beaten DMC1, 2, 3, 5 and the remake on every difficulty. I've got hundreds of hours in Bayonetta 1. You get the idea. Ever since Tears of The Kingdom copy/pasted it's way onto my shit list, I've promised to never buy a game day 1 again. Never spending £60 or more on a single game again. Since then, I got Nioh and Sleeping Dogs on sale, 4 bucks each. Awesome games! I could of just as easily pirated them but being so cheap, I was happy to pay for achievements and such. Even someone as frugal as me who emulates 90% of his games, is willing to pay. GTA6 will make billions no matter what the price. So I would play it safe and have a low entry fee, because it's not like it won't be brimmed with paid extras like GTA5.

Bank of America can drink a glass of Diarrhea and shut the fuck up. Bloody shit of brain has nothing to do with gaming.

But even what bank of America says. I bet Rockstar would charge 100 bucks just because they know they can get away with as GTA 6 is the most over hyped game in history they know they could charge out your ass and still sell 50million units.

are people honestly excited by GTA 6 even now ? i would have considered myself a massive gta fan since i was there when the original came out for ps1 , but things have moved on - games like red dead and yakuza have more going for them , and nearly a decade and a half since the last one is seriously taking the piss.

Yes because for some, this generation has been rubbish and this is the only thing worth keeping eyes on considering legacy, R*'s pedigree and so on.
The single player is one thing and that's only half the experience, we still know nothing about online mode.

In the past, GTA games were huge in comparisson to other titles. GTA series isn't only one in competition anymore. Now, thare are many huge games to play and i thing $80 is crazy price at the moment. It comes to worse, because GTA 6 high price could make other games prices went higher, when these games mostly aren't worth even how they cost now.

Plenty. Sunken cost fallacy and all that jazz.

Pretty much me too, except DMC2. I have multiple hours on SA2, but only on the Gamecube version.

I put over 750 hours into Streets of Rage 4, and I bought three copies on PS4 (one is a gift to my older brother), and two on Switch. Though when I first took up the digital version, I only paid $22.00.

Just wait for them to release the game at 100+ then slap everyone with an online mode that sucks, full of bugs and crash for even looking at the menus

Then release patches over a year to justify the price, but at that point you move on to another

Now days is better to wait for sales than pay for the price at release and later regret all the money you could save for another better stuff of interest

But noooooo, one is not a "gamer" unless you are a "day 1" follower or some shit (dont know since when this kind of thing started)

I agree, but I think it also depends on WHAT you are getting for your $80 — Duke Nukem Forever used to be $100, but it came with a ton of goodies.

If they don't give you a lot, then yeah... No thanks.

They could charge $8 or $800, there's no chance I'd buy it on release or potentially ever. I just can't muster any enthusiasm for it and still haven't even played GTA 5.

And if other developers want to try it in the current gaming hellscape of nickle and diming microtransactions, games having support pulled in weeks or months after launch, and the overall value proposition being worse than it's ever really been? Good luck.

just have a feeling they may tone stuff down due to modern woke shit and with some of the original GTA creators gone i feel a lot of the magic could be gone too

If it was the original GTA creators chances they joke about it

Hell, i wont be surprised if they decided to add a very girly male character (bonus if he is ugly as sin or even a main character) with every single cliche possible in the book just to mess with moral guardians for the lulz

But with how are things today?. There are no balls of steel anymore to pull that

Did I miss somethig? Why is the Bank of America suggesting a reteail price for a game? Do they own shares of Rocktstar?

We are trully living in the worst timeline

There is data that shows the average PC Gamer pays $20 per game.
There is also data showing that outside of sports games, console game sales are decreasing.

The industry was pressuring GTA6 to release at $100 a year ago, now they're urging $80.
GTA6 Will sell, but it's not going to set a new standardised price point. Far from it, people will buy GTA6 and play it rather than investing in other titles.
The great industry crash/reset is inevitable.

They could charge $100 for standard edition and I would still buy it in a heartbeat day one because unlike the majority, decent or not, this is THE event title. the blue moon release.

The surge of interest will be massive no doubt, perhaps too massive...
and once the honeymoon eventually wears off, several months or so later, the PS5 and other respective consoles will simply return back to mediocrity, but not just revert back to it's prior state, oh no... infact it will probably be worse, harder, due to the after party impact GTA 6 will have, but this won't be for a good long while (probably) as the second giant industry shattering meteor ninja art 'online mode no jutsu' has yet to fall.

western triple A gaming is on its way out, has been on its way out for quite some time now

they chose to simultaneously reduce the quality and increase the price at the exact moment where the competition is catching up fast, supply and demand, the market won't lie

the new kings of the gaming industry will be, on one side, unemployed basement NEETs who have an idea and are able to make whole unique & fun games all by themselves and release them for like five bucks, on the other side, Chinese/Singaporean companies building gacha games of triple A quality playable FOR FREE on every major platform including Android if you have beefy enough hardware, I have been playing NTE on my Ayn Thor for the past few days, I can confidently say that China not only saved gaming, they even managed to single-handedly bring handheld gaming back to life
